I realize socialism is premised on the idea that profit is "stealing". But it's just not. And that's why socialism loses me right out of the gate. It's basically just envy and avarice. You want what others have and you want government to procure it for you. I want no part of that.

Poverty is relative. So it can never be eradicated. A “poor” person in the USA is solidly middle class in most other countries and wealthy in a few.

Poverty is caused by political corruption, and yes it is the rich doing most of the corrupting; but soon, it is the pols taking over and shaking them down, along with everybody else. This is why culture is key; the kind of politicians you elect are indeed a mirror of the people who elect them. They don't fall just out of the sky from another planet and take over, they come from the very societies they rule over. That is the same for any type of government.

Urbanization is another corrupting factor in degrading culture and morals.

You are full of SHIT! I just looked it up. Fabian Socialists aren't any of the things you say. They are intellectuals. Not plutocrats. So how about you just stop smearing your "intellectual" shit all over my threads.

Well I am looking at the search I did right now. It says that for a single individual, you have to make $15,650 per year to be considered to be at the poverty level. (Not $60,000.00 per year) For a family of four, it is $32,300 per year. That is if you can believe what the government has to say. Also, from what I have heard, in California, to live an average middle class lifestyle, you have to make $50.00 dollars per hour. And I don't imagine it being much different in the rest of the U.S.

And by the looks of things, people are having a hell of a time getting the minimum wage raised to just $15.00 per hour. Several states have apparently done so. While other states have no plans to raise their minimum wage beyond $7.25 per hour. Both of those figures are a far cry from $50.00 per hour. I guess nobody believes in a middle class any more.

Just so you know, at $50.00 per hour, assuming a 40 hour per week work time, that would come out to $72,000.00 per year. That sounds good to me! As for myself, being on Social Security, I get $11,196.00 per year. Given the help I get paying rent and food stamps, that comes out to $18,228.00 per year. (And that doesn't include drug costs)

So for whatever federal agency who decided that $15,650.00 per year was the poverty level, they can blow it out their ass! Getting all together $18,228.00 per year is FAR below what I would consider to be a poverty level. As it is, I can't really make it from month to month. There are things that I consider to be necessary that I have to do without.

And as for having a car, that is FAR beyond my means. With the cost of plates and insurance. Gas wouldn't be much problem. Because all I would use the car for would be to go to the store. My brother in law offered to just give me a car once. I had to decline the offer because I couldn't afford it. To be at a real poverty level, I would have to be getting around $30,000.00 per year from Social Security. Even with democrats in charge, that isn't likely to happen. Though with the republicans wanting to be giving the wealthy trillions, it is even more unlikely to happen. I think it's time to vote Democratic Socialist!

That is the main factor, but not the only one. One of the main reasons are monopolies. Then there are the greedy who raise prices on things. And then there is planned obsolescence. What we need is a Second Economic Bill Of Rights. Just as FDR spoke of. Which I posted a video of at the beginning of this forum.
