USMB Coffee Shop IV

At Home has their Halloween displays up....
Holy cow. But August has no holidays, Labor Day isn't much of a market draw, so I guess Halloween is the next big sell 'em as much as you can day.

I'm old enough that if we had store bought costumes when I was a kid, nobody knew about them. We made ghost and pirate stuff out of whatever we could find, cowboys and Indians were popular, and if Mom had the time she might make us girls a fairy or princess outfit. (I preferred to be a cowboy or pirate. :) )

I wish it weren't so lonely around here. When grandma is asleep, it reminds me of how lonely it's gonna get when she's gone. I don't have much family. And all my friends have moved on. It absolutely sucks.
I can definitely relate to that. When I moved back here after the Air Force I had family all over. Mom and Dad, aunts and uncles, cousins, and I had more good friends, the kind you hang out with, than I could count on my hands and feet. Now, they're all gone. No more family, no more friends, they're all either dead or moved away, mostly dead. Nearest family is my younger sister, and she's 70 miles away. I have ONE good friend left here and he's 74. Still in good health and I'm extremely thankful for that. But if he was gone, I'd literally have no one anywhere near me I could call for help. I'd probably be planning to sell out and move.

WTH you been up to ya cotton picker? :113:
Hello there ol buddy .. mmm .. cotton picker .. 🤔 .. I did try that once, kinda prickly as I recall. Yup, not for me .. 😲

I was reading your previous post like a walk down memory lane .. I missed seeing you around and stuff. Your life seems a tad too relaxed but likely just as you like it..

Seems .. I've been reflecting on my life and loved ones past as well of late.. Yet I'm still smiling and I still feel blessed so that's good.

Hope to see you around again old buddy..😀

Hey welcome back. Hope it's for longer than just a quick visit. :)

I can't hear of weather in Wisconsin without thinking of you and hoping you're well.

Saw this meme and accompanying post this morning. It is amazing that Voyager 1 and 2 are still out there but I guess haven't encountered any life forms yet.

Voyager 1 was central to "Star Trek" the original movie and important to "Starman", both movies being in our movie collection.

Both Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 are well beyond our solar system now and are still transmitting.

"Here’s a jaw-dropping reality check from the edge of our solar system. Voyager 1, the farthest spacecraft ever launched by humans, has been sailing through space for over 47 years. And after nearly half a century, guess how far it’s gotten? About one light-day away from Earth. That’s the distance light travels in just 24 hours.

This isn’t a failure. In fact, it’s one of humanity’s greatest achievements. But it also shows just how unbelievably massive the universe truly is. To reach the nearest star, Proxima Centauri, Voyager 1 would need over 73,000 more years. That’s longer than all of recorded human history.

Right now, Voyager 1 is still sending back signals from interstellar space. It’s out there with no return ticket, flying alone into the unknown. And it’s still carrying the famous Golden Record with music, greetings, and sounds from Earth, a tiny message in a bottle, drifting through a cosmic ocean.

Think about that. We launched a spacecraft in 1977 with 1970s tech, and it's still working. It's not just moving away from Earth. It's making history every single second it stays alive out there.

This mission reminds us of the limitless scale of space and how small yet powerful our efforts can be. Voyager 1 is a symbol of curiosity, resilience, and our desire to explore even when the odds are impossible.

The universe is huge beyond imagination. But we dared to send a piece of ourselves into it. And it’s still out there, pushing the boundaries of what humans can reach."

I have red twig dogwood bush out front that's about 6.5;ft high and wide. Had it for several yrs. 2 yrs ago we bought some wild yellow daisies that are indigenous to MN and planted em right next to the bush. Last yr they were knee high. This yr they are almost as tall as I am

Two meteor showers peak on the night of July 29 and into the early hours of July 30., making it the best night to watch for shooting stars this summer. The Delta Aquariids and Alpha Capricornids will reach their peak together, with the moon setting early to leave dark skies that could host up to 30 meteors per hour. To add to the spectacle, the annual Perseids meteor shower, which peaks in August, may also offer an extra sprinkle of shooting stars. Here's how to see shooting stars tonight.

You can watch after dark on July 29, once the waxing crescent moon has set, but the best time will likely be between midnight and the early morning hours of July 30. . ."

I've read that those of us in North America will see the most meteors low in the south which is the worst possible position from our house but I live in Albuquerque where light pollution is usually a problem for celestial displays. And we're too old to go out into the desert after dark to watch like we did when we were much younger. (It's scarier out there these days too.)

When the airliner was a work of art....

I liked the phrase "when airliners were a work of art." I love photos of vintage automobiles back when every auto design was also a work of art and every make of automobile was distinctively different and its own style of beauty.
