USMB Coffee Shop IV

Wow I've been busy with my Aunt Betty who alas, at age 98, for the first time is showing signs of severe dementia--last year it was not evident. She has an out-of-town guest this week who is a mutual friend of ours as well and that had been a nice distraction. But I neglect to come into the Coffee Shop for a few days and voila, you guys have been busy in here.

I love it. :)

Pretty scary huh. Even the 1990's is considered the olden days now.
Been to customer service at least a dozen times telling them that this "21st century" thing isn't working for me, and that I'd like 1999 back...Told them that I'd bite the bullet in returning my "smart" phone and flat screen teevee....Hell, I even compromised and accepted taking back Windoze 98 and Slick Willie.

Haven't heard anything from them.

Worst......customer.....service.....EVAH!

LOL. Well it doesn't hurt to ask. :)

At least all my favorite games worked on Windows 98. Can't say the same for Windows 10.

Happy Anniversary Lumpkins. So sorry I missed this post earlier and am way late acknowledging it. But your lady must have figured out you're pretty special. 39 years is awesome!!!
Sweeet Lady Foxfyre .. no worries and I'm fine.. 🙂

Yesterday I had my Nikon D7100 out with my standard 18-55mm lens on it. It slid off a low table and the lens popped off........ The plastic mounting ring broke. Contacted Nikon and they don't sell the part, they want me to send it to them. Found the ring I need on Amazon for just under $10.
I was also looking at other used lenses when I remembered I had other lenses I still had for my Nikon EM and D40x. Sure enough the specific one I was hunting online for I already had, an old 50mm manual focus lens. Plus 2 others I forgot I had. Not losing my mind just haven't pulled the old camera case out in 6-7 years.
The 50mm lens is considered the jack-of-all-trades lens in photography.

Going through my small lens collection I discovered I had another 18-55mm in the collection. I think it came on my D40x when I bought it eons ago. 👍

Yes. Hombre was a semi professional photographer for years and had all the lenses. He used his 50mm lens more than any others for sure. But these days we just photograph with our phones. Get good pictures but it isn't anywhere nearly as much fun. :)

If I wanted to carry all my gear........ Or most of it:

As I'm slowly getting more into shape I am considering getting back into short & relatively flat hiking. I'm looking at different carrying options for one camera with a few different lenses. Most likely an equipment web belt with some D ring straps for the lenses, roughly $26 total. I was looking at single camera chest harnesses but they appear to be not exactly what I need. Besides the really good ones are $130 plus......... And they don't have anywhere to comfortably hang extra lenses though they are great for hands free carrying.
This is one of the cheaper $40 camera harnesses but requires an extra $40 mounting plate if you want to quickly attach it to a tripod:

So you use all that with a digital camera? Or are you still using an old SLR with film? Hombre was still using the SLR with his lenses. When everything went digital he sold all those lenses.

Nope, still using most all with my digital cameras depending on what I'm shooting. The left most is an auto focus 300mm zoom and the tall one next to it is a 500mm zoom (manual). That one lets me reach out and touch something quite a ways away. To the right of the tall one are three different sized macro lenses that mount to the camera then the lens mounts to the one I'm using. Great for taking very closeup shots like an ant's anus......... Just kidding......
Next is the working 18-55mm and finally a 200mm manual zoom that I no longer use.

Oy!

Don't mind me, I'm just raiding the fridge.

I'm trying to get my grandmother set up with a new PCP who visits the home instead of me having to arrange rides to the office. I'm scared. I don't know why, but her current PCP has made me feel wary ever since he immediately suggested I put her in a nursing home. She was doing fine last year, and then they called up saying that they hadn't seen her in a year, and that APS was pressuring them to make an appointment for her. I don't appreciate coercion. I have a general medical knowledge from my early studies as a 20-something, I can take care of her just fine, and I recognize I am not a professional, but still, it scares me.

I promised her I would never put her in a nursing home, because of how they handled Covid, and given that she contracted Covid in a rehab/nursing facility after a broken bone, and because it would be a betrayal of all the sacrifices she made for me. I am leery of her current PCP. I feel like somehow they have a gun to my head. I had to schedule an appointment with them in October just to get him off my back.

I'm scared. But I'm also determined to keep my promise to her. She wants to die here, and I will see to it that she is allowed to.

Good for you, T K. Tell the PCP "no nursing home" is the order of march.,

If he pushes back, get a new PCP.

If she has a good private plan, an unscrupulous PCP may want to remove it and give it over to Medicare. There is more money in it for them that way, and far more control.

Best of luck to your Mom.

That is very much appreciated, John. Much respect.
