I was born and raised 1970-1990. A great time in michigan. Flint, Saginaw and Metro Detroit boomed. Created a middle class the world had never seen before. My immigrant father was able to amass a small fortune working at ford for 20 years. Has a pension. My mom worked too. Not for a union but back then non union companies paid well because they had to compete with union jobs which were plentiful. 35% of the workforce was unionized. Today it’s 10%. How’s the middle class doing? Not as good as when I grew up.
And college was $5000 a year.
So I’m liberal fiscally. I’m pro labor not pro corporations. Even though today I’m doing fine under the new republican way Of every man for himself. Personally I’m doing fine but is society? Look at the numbers. The middle class is struggling. But the rich are getting richer.
Im a liberal.
Im also pro choice, believe science, I’m an agnostic atheist, like guns but don’t mind regulations. I believe in diversity Programs.
And I like social security and Medicare and public schools. I’m not a socialist.
I'm pro-labor but anti-union. That may sound contradictory, but I've seen firsthand how corrupt unions can be. I prefer the German approach to collective bargaining, which basically involves a democratic way of running business itself. A lot of major corporations in Germany give their workers more of a voice in decisions, and a lot of things are voted on. This is preferable, since having an outside organization get involved just means more opportunities for graft and bureaucracy.
College is expensive now, because of federally backed loans. End those, and the market will set much lower prices for tuition due to less demand. It would be much cheaper to just subsidize community college. Not everyone needs a 4-year degree, and we have a shortage of tradespeople.
I respect science, but I don't put it on a pedestal. Scientists are human too, and some fields of science are highly politicized, which makes them prone to bias (like climate science).
I mind most gun regulation, because most politicians don't actually know anything about guns while trying to regulate them.
I don't believe in diversity programs, because I'd rather people be judged on merit than race. We should make all government related applications for school or employment blind. Assign every application a number with no name that is visible and no race displayed. Then, people can be judged by their qualifications and achievements.
I think social security should be privatized in a manner similar to Australia's system, while scrapping Medicare. We could then implement a French-style medical system for all.
As for public schools, I prefer voucher systems that allow school choice. Charter schools are particularly useful for many areas.
I don't fit easily into one political category, but probably skew more conservative.
