One family is beyond furious

if anyone deserved the death penalty it was this moron. I would be mad too

After three years of nonsense arguments, they ran out of straws to grasp. I feel for the families, but I would imagine that Kohberger will be wishing he was dead after being in the prison general population for a short time.

Sarah is a good name for him/her going forward.

No. Life in prison is far worse than the death penalty.

He will probably get his ass kicked regularly.

Nah..Idaho is very easy time, compared to most places. He'll do a few years in max...and then, when he's cooled off a bit..Gen. Pop. at ISP.
My peeps tell me it was a money decision..the trial would have cost millions....

Justice? Not even~

Of course it was money. That's what plea deals always are. They've already spent millions on it. This way they have four guaranteed 1st degree murder guilty convictions that will put this guy in prison for life with no possibility of parole. The state only lost the death penalty. If it had gone to trial, it would only take one moron juror for him to get off scot free. I think it was a good decision. I disagree that the inmates are going to go easy on this guy. I wouldn't be surprised if he is dead inside of a year.

Being as I don't support the death penalty I'm certainly good with this but I do understand the families being upset.

The families got hosed.

Let's see....

The average cost of a death penalty trial is $1.26 million.

15 year average on death row at 60K a year = 900K

Average execution cost 1 million.

Life without parole would cost the state around 4 million if he dies at the average age a lifer convict dies....Possibly much more than that due to medical costs in his last years.

The state saves around a million+ by executing him.

million for an execution? are they using gold platted bullets? LOL

finally what we have all known, he's guilty as hell and this should not have dragged on for so long

he's a freaking weirdo who was either in there to steal the girls panties he had some crush on, got caught and had to kill them
to cover his tracks but he left too much evidence for a guy with a degree in criminology

he thought he could fool the system, he lost

I hope prison is not kind to him.....killing 4 young people for no reason

As of Jan. 2024, this case has cost about $975K. Since then, it is estimated that another $900K has been spent. That adds to nearly $2M. If it went to trial, using your numbers would be another $1.25M ($3.25M) and that would not guarantee a conviction--one juror could make all the money spent go away. If it did go to trial and he was convicted and sentenced to death, incarceration costs and appeals could cost more than $5M. By taking the plea deal, Kohberger may still end up dying in prison---sooner than he would have had he been given the death penalty.

no trial with so much evidence against him should not have dragged on this long
this is why defense lawyers suck ass....drag it out so they can keep getting paid

this trial should have taken a few weeks but they dragged their feet

It will never happen but defense lawyers should work on a fixed salary if they are public defenders
to cut down the cost
I don't think he had the coin to pay for top legal aid

I don't like plea deals in general but the actual evidence against him was pretty sketchy, and the whole scene at the house from murder to police arriving was pretty muddled and mismanaged. He may be guilty with hm confessing, or there was a snitch, but at a jury trial you never know what those people are going to do. Probably a good decision to offer a deal. with him hoping for a retrial. I like to see people that commit things like this smoked and smoked fast.

most people who are going to do a burglary don't carry a hunting knife with them so his intent was to kill the girl he had a thing for but her roomie was there, with the commotion he had to kill the other two.
if that big guy was sober and had a baseball bat he could beat the shit out of that brian dude.

they would be alive if they just locked their back door but they were drinking, felt safe in a town with low crime and just off campus, that was a fatal mistake

Pretty much, when the light is shined on a lot of places like this town it demonstrates how bad we have become. The girls there were probably doing some dealing to other college kids, running a nuisance party house, and invited a lot of sketchy people into their lives. and got caught up in things they thought they were in control of. The college is the engine of that town economically and had influence over law enforcement, maybe too much. The 911 call was delayed 8 hours, and the crime scene (house) was compromised and destroyed pretty fast before the trial. Pretty shitty police work.

Very circumstantial case, even if it was a solid circumstantial case.

He's not getting out. Ever.

I support the DP, but I also support prosecutors when they take deals to make sure the person can't get off due to a circumstantial case like this.
