If it flew over Canada towards Manhattan it would land way south or in the ocean somewhere...it would hit the Jersey shore somewhere.

Not good at that but...it would still leave our large cities intact. The targeting can be fixed eventually...and we do have satellites that can watch for this stuff but deployment of our anti-missile systems takes a lot of time...we flat out aren't ready or are going to be. Our current best deterrent is striking back.

First of all you do not know what the hell you are talking about.......

I am not talking about a tactical nuclear weapon....I am talking about the kind of nuclear weapon China would use if they decided to do a first strike....aka knock us out so quickly we would have no capability to respond

To conduct a first strike they would use the most powerful nuclear device they have....and that is not a tactical nuclear weapon....those are designed just for use on a particular battlefield.

Here is what you missed or do not understand:

The hypersonic missiles can reach speeds of up to 21,000 mph and can strike anywhere on Earth from space within minutes.

The system would be able to overcome US anti-ballistic missile defence systems that are based in Alaska and set up to shoot down projectiles coming over the North Pole - the Chinese system would be able to strike the US from the south.

The key being it would reach its target....America.....much faster than a ICBM because a ICBM has to travel thousands of miles.....striking from space which is what a hypersonic missile is designed to do ---thus a much shorter distance to travel hence it hits its target much faster...knocking out our ability to respond with ICBM's.

That is why there is so much concern over this Chinese advancement in missle technology.
