THe law says that no president can run for election twice. Being an unelected VP who then becomes the president because the previous president stepped down would be legal, but you wont find a single person in the world who would give up the seat after legitimately winning the peoples vote.

So to hold the office one must be, at the time of assuming office:

• A Natural Born Citizen
• 35 Years of Age
• 14 Years a Resident

AMENDMENT 22, PARA 1
"1. No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than
twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as
President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was
elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than
once."

Notice this Amendment does not specificy eligibility to hold the office, it ONLY refers to being elected to office which is technically done by the Electoral College not the votes of the populus of each state.

The mental masturbation that cultist engage in hinges on the semantics of "eligible" and "elected" which are two different things. The difference being eligible to assume and elected. Article II Section 1 defines the conditions to be able to assume the Office of the President, while the 22nd Amendment is limited to electing someone to specifically the Office of the President.

There are two fantasy methods:

#1 Trump gets elected Vice President and gets voted in as Vice President. The President resigns and under Article II Section 1 is eligible to assume the office.

#2 The House nominates and selects Trump as Speaker of the House, then either the President and Vice President resign, the President and Vice President are impeached and removed from office or there is a tragic "accident" that invovles the death of both the President and Vice President. Then through the lines of succession the Speaker becomes President.

I don't think many Republicans in congress would be on board with this..nor would many voters. I know I wouldn't.

To do so would spend the political system, and lead to a dictatorship. One person could be president for life under that thought process.

Every new president from one party could always just select the same person for VP, and then just resign the office to their VP pick.

I don't think that would be palatable to anyone.
