Trump's third term

If Trump were really running for a third term he wouldn't be singlehandedly destroying the markets in a bid to win votes.
I think that Trump's dream is his huge cuts in government and a massive increase in tariffs will allow him to delivery a big tax cut before the mid terms, insuring him 4 full years of controlling government. By then China and the rest of the world will have slashed their tariffs, America is free of immigrants, hundreds of new factories are under construction, and the American people are begging him to lead them for 4 more year.

And then he is awoken with news that China has retaliated, not with cuts in tariffs but with an attack on Taiwan, and he has lead America into a nuclear war.

...Trump cannot run as VP because to be eligible to run for VP a requirement is that you’re eligible to be president...
Forgive my ignorance on this one...

Can you point us to text in either the Constitution or Statute that says a two-term President cannot run as the VP?

I am not aware of any such specific provision within American law and I would like to learn.

Serious question.

It doesn’t say that word for word.

It says that a requirement to be VP is that one is eligible to be president

Since Trump will NOT be eligible to be president, he will consequently not be eligible to run for VP

There is nothing in the 22 amendment that would prevent Trump from serving as vice president. However, look at the last sentence of the 12 amendment which says "But no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States."

So that last sentence of 12th would bar Trump from serving as vice president. But wait, that last sentence is adding a condition to the House election of a vice president. So it can be argued that it only applies to House of Representative selecting of a Vice President.

On the other hand, it can be argued that if a person is ineligible for the Vice Presidency if House selects him, then if would follow that he would be ineligible if the electors had selected him.

There is also another argument. It is clear that the intent of the 22nd was to prevent a person from serving as president 3 times.

The constitution is not really clear on eligibly for the office of vice president if the candidate has served two term as president. Such a case would end up in the courts prior to the election.

From a practical standpoint, it might be difficult to raise money to elect a candidate not knowing if he would be legally eligible to serve.

The twelfth amendment states that any n order to be eligible for VP you must also be eligible to run for POTUS
That's iffy, and where lawyers make their paycheck. The 12th says to be VP you must be eligible to be President. Natural born, 35, 14 year resident.
The 22nd says you can't be elected for more than 2 terms.
The argument would hinge on whether having been elected twice makes you ineligible. Honestly, it would be much parsing of words and could come down either way.

Yes.... you're right... one of our fellow posters served-up the last sentence in the 12th Amendment as The Convincer.

Yeah... you're right... I stand corrected... one cannot be a VP if one is ineligible to be President.
