I think the intent of the cotus is what matters. What the framers wanted. The intent is that there is no other means by which a president assumes office, except through elections.

I don't think many Republicans in congress would be on board with this..nor would many voters. I know I wouldn't.

To do so would spend the political system, and lead to a dictatorship. One person could be president for life under that thought process.

Every new president from one party could always just select the same person for VP, and then just resign the office to their VP pick.

I don't think that would be palatable to anyone.

Trumps supreme court doesn't go by the intent of the constitution, but by the "text" of the constitution.

Except when they suddenly switch to the "intent" when it suits their aims.
