Trump's third term

Even if they do attempt it, in what universe would that get 2/3 of both chambers plus 3/4 of states to ratify a change almost no one wants?

I agree. I'm just saying that things are so crazy these days, that nothing would surprise me. Plus, I think many here already know my view on all of this stuff anyway. So I don't want to repeat it again on here. haha

Will Trump have to run for his third term...or can he just stay in office and appoint himself? I'm thinking if he puts in his dream team in the military, that will allow him to stay in the White House. Without the military you can't be a good dictator.
NO. Absolutely not. I will not support a third term.

And yet you people would love for OBozo to do just that, wouldncha?
I’ve never seen any democrats here- ever- say that Obama should find some loophole to run for a third term. Never.

I see republicans here talk about loopholes for trump to do so daily. Several here on this very thread.

Explain that.

Jesus fucking Christ, have you NOT read the 5 posts here citing the 12th amendment that states anyone not eligible to run for president ALSO ALSO ALSO cannot run for VP?

And I guess you're completely unaware that the 12th never contemplated the existence of the 22nd, RIGHT? And the 22nd has no bearing on the 12th because it never mentions it. So stop trying to conflate the two.

.

Trump has never felt restrained from saying whatever come into his head. It only means as much as people let it mean. He cannot legally have a term after January 2028.

Since when has Trump ever abided by the law?

They’re two different things

1) anyone not eligible to run for president is therefore also not eligible to run for VP

And

2) no one can be elected more than two full terms as president

Seriously….. what is with this website and people just doubling down when they are proven wrong

Facts are facts. You don’t get to debate facts

Like any child, he's going to respond in a way that gets a reaction.
Are you a child still?

They should only ask complex questions that require some depth of thought to answer. Now THAT would be interesting to watch.
Yes, let's ask Joe Biden some complex questions! That would have been very interesting to watch, which is why the press were ordered to submit their questions to Joe in advance so they could pick the easy ones and write out the answers. Do you mean like that? Trump has already answered more questions in two months than all of Biden's four years, and he takes all questions cold no matter what or who they are.

But apparently Trump is WAY smarter than you as you never have any answer to any question. I could have out-debated you in 1st Grade.

Again, I think there are too many people who, while they support trump, are more loyal to the cotus. That's just my take on it though, take it or leave it.

And you might be right.

The problem is you have to stop that kind of behavior at the beginning, otherwise it could be too late.

But the right are enabling this.

My worry is that Trump does all this, and then the next guy who comes along is smarter, younger and more ambitious and nefarious.

US Democracy is very, VERY fragile because of the nature of the system.

No, I've ways said the intent of the framers was central to the meaning of the cotus. I believe when they wrote the 22A and the 12A, they did so with the idea that a person can only hold the office for 2 terms, and that's it.

12A says that no person ineligible to be president can be VP. I think 22A means trump is ineligible to be president again.

We aren’t talking about what reasonable people believe.

We’re talking about what Trump and the cultist believe is a way.

At the time the 12th was written, you only had to be 35 yoa, a citizen and been in the country for 14 years. Once again are you saying Trump doesn't meet those requirements. Also the 22nd hinges on being elected president, it does not exclude being elected VP.

The VP loophole does not exist. The 12th amendment prevents anyone ineligible to be president from running as VP

The 12th Amendment.
