The Republican power elite may not allow this without consequences. If DeSantis is true also that means, we are putting important eggs in the basket at one area. The Vice President is not that important in real terms but serves a purpose. Look at the internal war of getting men and women who are conservatives into being more and more of the Republican party elected officials. An example will be Murkowski again. She will get the write in Dems to make her Senator if not winning a primary. She is of course part of a local power family. And there are power families in most states and areas who can be detrimental to the demands of the citizens.
