Comey's appearance produced three revelations about his character more telling than all the rest. In the weeks following his conversation with Trump, Comey not only didn't feel the President was obstructing, but said so matter-of-factly in a Congressional hearing. Although legally and duty-bound to file a report with the DOJ that he'd been approached to break the law, he said nothing. Now in the month after he was fired, he's not so sure. When asked if he wasn't legally compelled to report such an event (and he was) he said he didn't know. DIDN'T KNOW???? With his legal background, training, years as a prosecutor etc he never heard of 18 U.S. Code Section 4?
Number two: Recall his breathless description of his showdown with Trump over Flynn in which he claimes he "said nothing back, didn't change his facial expression and the two sat looking at each other". Quite a detailed recall, right? But yet when asked what Trump's reaction to the awkward silence was, he "doesn't recall". HUH? One would think that would be the most important moment of the exchange. You just crossed swords with the Commander-in-Chief but don't remember how he reacted to it, to you?
And third: Comey's using a "friend" to leak his memo to the NYTimes instead of being interviewed like any straight-up man of character would do. And now he "doesn't know" if his friend still has a copy of the memo? Who's memo is it? That's clear...it's a classified government document and therefore property of the US government, not Comey's. So he's a practiced leaker and this isn't the first time he's done it. He also unwittingly was asked if he'd reviewed his notes prior to testifying and replied he had. Any first year law student knows that made his notes or "memos" subject to examination by the committee for their evidentiary value. He tried the CYA tactic of saying his pal Mueller had them...too late... now the Senate Intel committee can demand them.
Conclusion? The guy is not only a spineless weasel, but he's also a self-absorbed dumbass who doesn't seem to understand how the system works or how he fit into it. His sole motivation throughout this entire process was to keep his status...big office, bodyguards, media darling, and power over both his subordinates and every US citizen he encountered or investigated. Those new to power often don't recognize it's limits until it's turned against them. So this was Comey's last hurrah; it's all been taken away from him and he's still baffled about how it all happened.
