O'Rly?
Cigarettes/tobacco use. Beyond the individual heath issues smoking causes, which are many, cancer, lung disease, heart disease, cardio vascular disease, emphysema etc.
There are the issues of second hand smoke which affects everyone in the general vicinity of the smoker. Kids of smokers have long lasting issues with their olfactory system and ears. Then there is the actual growing of the tobacco plant itself which puts stress on the eco system (near and dear to all you liberals right?) pesticides, fertilizer, unnecessary water usage, tractors burning fossil fuels to plant, tend and harvest the plants. Then there is the processing which uses fossil fuels and petro chemicals. How many trees are cut down every year so that we can package cancer sticks in cardboard boxes? And they are all wrapped in plastic another scourge on the earth and the human society. And we havent even talked about shipping these things all over the country.
Basically the same can be said of alcohol, but add in all the physical and mental abuse women have taken at the hands of their drunk abusers. DUI's.
Ditto on drugs.
Now add in all the money we have spent on programs to fix the issues caused by these bad CHOICES people have been allowed to make and how much good could have been done in other areas with that money.
Obesity.
2.8 million every year die because they couldnt stop shoving ho ho's in their face and wouldnt get up off the couch except to get more ho ho's. How much do you want to bet if we counted fat deaths like we count COVID deaths, basically if you die and are fat you count as a fat death, that number would be much higher.
Obesity has reached epidemic proportions globally, with at least 2.8 million people dying each year as a result of being overweight or obese.

But it doesn't stop there. How much land is tied up producing all the extra food to feed these people? How many millions of acres are being slashed and burned in the Amazon to satisfy this selfish behavior? Killing countless species and creating tons upon tons of carbon emissions. Don't forget the pesticides, fertilizers, gas to run tractors, shipping etc.
And these are all choices we "allow" people to make knowing they hurt not only themselves but all of us in the long run.
