Woman gets booed at graduation commencement speech

Nobody has yet to explain to me how the economy will look like when 25 to 50% of consumers can no longer consume.
That alone tells you why AI is not the big deal people think it is.
Humans beings evolved to be superior at dealing with problems of resource scarcity. The problem is we got so good at solving it that technically we are already capable of producing far more than we can consume. We are now in an era of post-scarcity, or abundance, but we live as though we are not and do it by making money (which should just be a medium of exchange) scarce, to keep global markets functioning as usual. AI combined with advanced robotics will make it clearly obvious that a new paradigm based on abundance is needed. The only problem now is to get world leaders to understand that competition for global markets is coming to an end, and a new phase of human civilization is already taking place. We shouldn't fear it, and if we let it, it will benefit humanity. We earned it.

The problem with humanity is its lust for knowledge, which is driven by a quest for control over our fellow man.

Knowledge and the subsequent power it brings that is devoid of wisdom brings death, as said in an ancient tale in the Bible regarding the partaking of the forbidden fruit from a tree referred to as the tree of knowledge.

My only question up to this point is, how have we not destroyed ourselves already?

People use fearmongering because it works against the poorly educated, the low IQ and the irrational.

People with good critical thinking skills can look at a problem from all sides and make decisions based upon those observations.

I like AI it's really handy to ask Siri, Alexa or Google a question and get an answer. OTOH, I'm less sure about having AI control our government or nuclear arsenal. Shades of Colossus: the Forbin Project!

In short, anyone crapping their shorts at the mention of AI are living in fear and not from a rational POV.

How many Covid shots did you get and are you still wearing two masks?

Then AI could be just one of many attempts to destroy ourselves. I however think AI is our last hope, as it has a possibility of becoming much more intelligent than us and may stop us from destroying ourselves. It's a long shot, but our best shot. Our world leaders do not possess the intelligence to avoid annihilation. It is just a matter of time, so we are in a race to develop AI sufficient to avoid it.

I want AI as much as I want other WMD's on the planet.

This can't possibly turn out well.
Fair enough

I just needed to know the position people are taking before some politician or influencer tells you how to think

Thank you for sharing your experience with AI.

If you play a richter-tuned harmonica, the common type you can purchase at Cracker Barrel, and you play the blow and draw notes from the 2-hole blow to the 6-hole blow, you’ll have a quasi-Dorian mode.

UCF graduation speaker

Video of a speaker at the University of Central Florida’s commencement ceremony this weekend is going viral after she was visibly shocked by the reaction of the graduates to her comments about AI.

UCF, located in Orlando, Florida, has the second-largest public university enrollment in the U.S. and handles its massive graduations by holding a series of separate ceremonies in its on-campus basketball arena, with the graduates divided by colleges. More than 10,000 students graduated from UCF this past Friday and Saturday, according to WESH, Orlando’s NBC affiliate.

At the Friday evening commencement for UCF’s College of Arts and Humanities and Nicholson School of Communication and Media, Gloria Caulfield, President of the Lake Nona Institute and Vice President of Strategic Alliances at Tavistock, was one of the speakers.

While Caufield was discussing technological innovations, she remarked that it was “an understatement” to say we were now “living in a time of profound change.”

“Change is exciting,” she continued. “Very exciting. And let’s face it, change can be daunting. The rise of artificial intelligence is the next Industrial Revolution –”

The graduates began booing and Caufield nervously laughed and looked momentarily confused.

“Whew! What happened?” she asked, turning behind her as the booing increased in volume and one person could be heard yelling, “AI sucks!”

“Okay, I struck a chord. May I finish?”

“Uhh, only a few years ago, AI was not a factor in our lives,” Caulfield said, this time being interrupted by loud cheers and applause from the audience.

Hilarious!

Yea, people don't want AI in our lives, bottom line, but it will be forced upon them just like death and taxes and the democrat party.
What monstrous impoliteness! What lack of social grace! Feeling necessary to censor a speakers words in mid-delivery is hardly the stuff of genuine university graduates. It isn't as if she'd said anything remotely debatable. What has education come to?

When Americans can't afford to buy widgets, the widget manufacturers will become concerned too.
The price of widgets will adjust downward significantly.

However, if AI does improve the quality of life in third world countries.....then things will be O.K. Demand and prices will stay up.

If certain people didn't like what was being said, what was stopping them from leaving when leaving might be the greatest freedom that we have in this country? The could've returned to their seats as soon as the girl was done.

God bless you and everyone there always!!!

I admire your faith in corporations to care for the common man.
