Luddites are a common result of change. Instead of trying to turn back the clock, I suggest they embrace the change and more forward.AI is going to wipe out entire industries in the next ten years.
An example would be retraining buggy whip manufacturers to put lugnuts on automobiles instead of protesting the new fangled machines.
The problem I see isn't the loss of jobs, which can be alleviated by retraining programs, but by giving AI too much power without proper safeguards. It's better that they have Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics instead of the autonomy of HAL 9000.
Isaac Asimov's "Three Laws of Robotics"
- A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
- A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
- A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
