Time for a 3rd party?

Probably the only person today who might be able to pull that off is Elon Musk and look at the attacks leveled against him for buying Twitter imagine if he tried to start a third party.
Personally Musk isn't all that popular. As soon as he starts being loudly vocal on political positions he'll start earning a lot of enemies like anyone else that decides to run for office.

Americans are not very happy with their 2-party system. Today the GOP holds a 4-point edge over Democrats going into the 2020 midterms, and will no doubt make substantial gains in congress this time around, but neither party can manage even a 50% approval rating.

Is it time for a 3rd party? An independent group that would take ideas from both conservative and liberal platforms. If so, what would it be like? Could a group like this finally be what the American voter is looking for?

Thoughts?

First you have to come up with a party that people are interested in, which no third party has done so far. Once you have successfully done that, instead of people being unhappy by election results half the time, everyone will be unhappy 2/3rds of the time, and everyones approval rating will be 30%.

Freedom of association. You'll have to Amend our constitution to accomplish that.

Political parties naturally grow in all democracies.

We may bitch about the 2 party system but the truth is it's what Americans want rather than the anarchy of coalition multi party government.

If they want to have parties on their own, let them. But having 2 primaries does not need to happen. Registering as either a democrat or a republican is a waste.

200 years of American history shows us otherwise. This is a system that developed mostly over the last 140 years because it's what Americans wanted.

Parties are going to have to have some sort of primary system to select their candidates because their members want to be able to vote for them.

I like what I hear

Their platform on every issue is what the people want. If 70% like social security, we strenghten that program.

If most people want gun rights but common sense gun regulations, that’s what they will do.

If most want abortion to remain legal but with restrictions.

If most believe in global warming And going green.

I heard on npr democrats have been helping trump republicans win because theyll be easier to beat.

But what if they win?
