TikTok is essentially banned. Will Trump show he's pro-China by getting rid of the ban?

Thanks, and something else to consider in this thing, where as it is a fact that our technology has come along way also, and it could be that nefarious character's right here in our own country are doing the same thing's as the CCP is being accused of too Americans as well.

The slow reaction by our government to protect Americans and their privacy rights has been a huge eye opener in all of this stuff to date.
They are definitely doing it, but at least there are laws preventing use of the data. As long as people do not break the law.

Most apps that use any sort of location track all of your data.

I worked for Verizon for 20 years. Verizon has a LCOE (Location Center of Excellence) outside Denver. It is a massive data processing center that tracks where every customer is all the time and what they access on their handsets and tablets and aircards and modems.

Basically all carriers know all your shit, but if they were to leak it, they would get crazy FCC fines.

Not China. That is also why Haiwei devices (Chinese) are illegal in the US.

Not if it's controlled by an American (or ally) company. We have restrictions of transfer of sensitive products and information to hostile nations.
Example, you can't sell high end computer chips to China under the various export control acts.
The stuff TikTok can retrieve is not "sensitive" in any legal sense.
Nor can China be considered a "hostile" nation since we have never been attacked by them and we are buying their products all the time.
Sure we are imposing economic sanctions on their purchase of some technology, but that is not really legal.
The Constitution does not allow federal interference in private enterprise, and the 1906 Geneva Convention prohibits economic warfare over civilian goods.

You seem obsessed with cat videos.
TikTok typically requests permissions to access your device's camera, microphone, location, contacts, and storage, which are primarily used to create and share videos on the platform,

Chinese spyware?

the government, specifically agencies within the Department of Commerce or a similar ministry, are responsible for controlling imports and exports, regulating what goods can be brought in or sent out of the country through policies and laws related to trade and national security;

The Import-Export Clause of the United States Constitution is found in Article I, Section 10, Clause 2.

Congress has the power to revise and control all laws related to imports and exports

Sorry, TikTok isn't available right now
A law banning TikTok has been enacted in the U.S. Unfortunately, that means you can't use TikTok for now.

We are fortunate that President Trump has indicated that he will work with us on a solution to reinstate TikTok once he takes office. Please stay tuned!

In the meantime, you can still log in to download your data.

Yeah, we're fortunate that Trump wants to let China dictate how the US functions. Yay. All for more money for his little bitch.

After Covid, anyone trusting China might be considered totally insane or just greedy because they benefit huge from trading with them. Money or the love of it can basically cause temporary blindness in some individuals, and this regardless of the consequences that may follow upon the relentless pursuit of it.

Still crying about Twitter which is now (X) eh ?

OK, so congress (depending on it's make up), has been dropping the ball big time when it comes to consumer protections associated with trade and enforcing policies on trade ?

Nope. This will keep the commies from China from stealing our information and other things as well. Not the same thing. Not much of a computer geek I take it?
Is there any way that we can feel safe without giving up what precious few freedoms we have left? Oh, and going into another 2 billion in debt?

He'll only lift the ban if it is sold to a US buyer. To think he'd do that while it is in Chinese hands is stupid.

You could do without the unintelligent facetiousness.

He can't lift anything. This was a law passed by Congress, and upheld by the Supreme Court. Unless Congress decides to act, theres nothing he can do about it.

"TikTok is set to be banned in the US on 19 January after the Supreme Court denied a last ditch legal bid from its Chinese owner, ByteDance."

"Can Trump overturn the ban?"

"Trump may once have sought to ban TikTok - but he has repeatedly indicated during 2024 that he is now firmly against the law, and tried unsuccessfully to get it delayed."

Trump was opposed to TikTok,

"In July 2020, then-President Donald Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One, "As far as TikTok is concerned, we’re banning them from the United States." The next month, he signed an executive order seeking to ban the app."

Then he took money from a guy who makes lots of money in China.

And all of a sudden his view on TikTok (which, ironically, is banned in China, so why does China not want it banned?) changed and he doesn't want to TikTok to be banned.

Having a president that will do anything to not anger China.... hmm.... is that what MAGA wanted?
Its more likely self interest rather than any ideological belief.

Before Trump uttered one word on this, what was your take on Tic Tok?

To everybody that has hours to spend watching dancing bear videos instead of working at a job.

Grow the fuck up.

This is why this country is currently where it is.

And the Chinese understand that better than anybody. Apparently even better than Americans.
