TikTok is essentially banned. Will Trump show he's pro-China by getting rid of the ban?

From everything I've heard about Tiktok, I would love to see it disappear off the face of the Earth, or at least from the United States. That's my feeling.

I also like the idea of Trump using his power to lift the ban to negotiate with Tiktok to stop its worst excesses. Trump knows how to negotiate and other politicians and their followers never understand that is what he is doing. I can admire Tiktok for shutting down, because I believe it was a negotiation play also.

Those are my feelings.

My principles are that I don't cheer when government uses its power against someone I don't like, because I know I could be next. I see a horrible precedent being set. If Tiktok can be banned for the way it operates, what prevents Democrats from banning X, or truthsocial, or foxnews.com, or reason.com? Suppose that the Democrats come into power and decide that USMB is a tool of the Ruskies and shuts it down?

You think any of those is pure as the driven snow when it comes to selling their patron's data? I'd guess that the user agreement for any of those conservative leaning platforms is nearly as long and unreadable as the facebook UA.

What did I say that was incorrect?

Stop making excuses for his decisions and own up to them. When he kept his promises in his first term I was on here and Twitter defending and supporting him, even as the Establishment and so many doubted that his policies would work. I sent messages to guests on CNN who doubted him and I told them "watch and learn, America can and WILL be able to straighten out China and their abuses of the U.S economy".

He did excellent until covid hit. THat altered everything including all of the mail in votes. Even then I backed him as I know how important it is for America to succeed. For the West to succeed.

Now it's 2024 and Trump can't forget what he represents at a time the U.S needs to handle the greatest threat to its existence. He chose Rubio for SOS which was an excellent choice, we can only pray he stays the course.

Ultimately, he may be a great negotiator and all of this is with purpose. Stop pretending that this isn't a backtrack though. We aren't young anymore, neither is he, just own it. If his explanation is honestly "I received many votes due to Tik Tok (which I believe is probably misguided as they promote Pro-CCP ads like mad) so they should be left alone", than it is a clear flip flop.
I said what I said and that, again, proves it.

Thats what Congress voted to ban the Chinese shit. And now you're wimping out.

I was pleasantly surprised to discover that REDnote is way better than TikTok ever was. I might not have used TikTok efficiently, but how could I not notice that certain 'content creators' kept showing up on my scroll.

Tik Tok .. the cancer that continues to stultify today's uniformed youth.

I doubt TikTok gets banned, the owner will make a nice contribution to Trump, Alito, and Thomas.

If it turns out to be another Chinese Communist spy platform, you can't say the name didn't warn you.

Trump wasn't really anti-China, he just pretended once in a while in order to appease his supporters.

1. First of all, when he publicly asked for dirt on Hillary, he asked Russia OR China. China didn't deliver, but that's not the point.

2. His Bank of China loan.

3. Ivanka's business dealings in China.

4. He also sells swag made in China.

5. China supports Russia, why would he indirectly attack Russian interests?

Not really convinced he would do anything if China attacks Taiwan. That's just my opinion.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez warned her followers that 'this is 21st century fascism' through a series of posts on the eve of Donald Trump's inauguration.

The leftist Congresswoman took to her Instagram story on Sunday afternoon to discuss the nationwide TikTok ban - and restoration - with her followers less than a day before the former president is sworn into the White House yet again.

But she also went on to explain what she believes the ban - and the Republican party - really means for the nation.

'Well, we are on the eve of an authoritarian administration' she said. 'This is what 21st century fascism is starting to look like.'

TikTok, the viral social media platform where billions created and shared short videos, officially went dark for American users on Saturday evening.

Comment:
Is banning TikTok censorship?
Is banning TikTok fascism?

We have a rule for throwing around "Nazi". Godwin.

We need one for throwing around "Fascist" also.

I only like this play if China has no interest in Tiktok.

50/50 is still not good if it is 50/50 with China.

Its more likely self interest rather than any ideological belief.

Of course it is.

but that's how China functions. It's got the US by the balls because it controls Musk because Musk does business in China.
