I've heard different answers for this. Me personally, I love Trump's policies but I'm sick and tired of his mouth. However, I wouldn't really complain if he could become vice president either. Although I'm really hoping for a Vance and Rubio ticket in 2028. 😁

Not unless he served less than 6 years as president.

Trump is not going to serve another term as president. I don't know what off-the-wall idea he has to remain in office, but constitutionally it cannot happen.

Whether a two-term president can become Vice President is a debated legal question with no definitive answer, as it has never been tested in court. While the 22nd Amendment prohibits being elected president more than twice, some argue this does not disqualify a former president from holding the VP office, while others argue the 12th Amendment prevents anyone ineligible to be president from serving as VP. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Key Perspectives and Nuances:
  • The 22nd Amendment: Specifies that "no person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice".
  • The 12th Amendment: States that "no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States".
    • The Argument for Eligibility: Some legal scholars, such as Dan T. Coenen, argue that a two-term president can become vice president through election or appointment and could even, theoretically, succeed to the presidency again, provided they are not elected to the office a third time.
    • The Argument Against Eligibility: Many legal analysts argue that because a two-term president is ineligible to be elected to a third term, they are "ineligible to the office of President," and therefore barred from the vice presidency by the 12th Amendment. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]

Never say never. It's never been tested in court. The constitution only states that you cannot be ELECTED president for more than 2 terms. But if you aren't elected and become president because the actual president leaves or dies, then you weren't elected.

But the 12th says someone ineligible to be president can't be VP, so I don't know. It's unchartered waters.

It may be possible for a one term president.

But after two terms? Hypothetically, if the former President serves as VP for over two full years without the passing of the new president, then maybe the former President could finish the dead president’s final two years.

Didn't you mean to say with the passing of the new president because how you worded it here doesn't make any sense. 🫤

Too bad.

Having Trump as vice president would put an end to Democrats trying to kill the president.

You know I was just thinking that even that probably wouldn't stop these insane radicals from taking out them both.

No. It makes sense.

The former president becomes the new VICE President. When the (presently alive) new president dies in office, though, it is the former president (ie, the VP) who becomes the new president.

(Lol. It might be clearer if we substituted names).

Of the living, only Biden.

My brain just exploded. 🤯

All Trump needs to do is write an EO banning the 22nd until after the 2028 elections.

Done deal. Trump 3.0 baby.

I disagree. But Potato would be eligible for a full term.

Trump (or, God forbid, Obumbler, Bubba or even W) would only be eligible for two years. That could lead to an otherwise non-Presidential election year presidential election.

The gay black guy, Slick Willie and W are ineligible to become VP because they cannot be president in accordance with the Constitution. If they don't assassinate Trump by 1/20/27, he would be ineligible.

Come to think of it, if they assassinate Trump at any time, he would be ineligible.

Wrong.

The Constitution denies them only a third elected term. But it doesn’t deny them the role of becoming President (for two additional years) under those circumstances.
