Why suddenly are these workers saying they can't afford to live on what they make? I thought Trump was going to make America more affordable for workers like this? Instead tariffs and Iran have raised the price of everything. Caused inflation. Republicans want to say Biden caused inflation but forget The first stimulus package under President Donald Trump was the CARES Act, a $2.2 trillion economic relief bill signed into law on March 27, 2020.

Overpaid unions always go on strike who cares

The state and city of New York aren't ponying up enough to support the socialized railroad system to satisfy the union bosses.

What does this have to do with President Trump at all?

Service on the Long Island Rail Road came to a halt on May 16 after 3,500 workers walked off the job. It was the first strike on the railroad in more than 30 years.

They didn't strike during the Trump mishandled Covid or during the Bush Great Recession. Prices went up they didn't go on strike. It was the circumstances. Why suddenly can't they pay their bills on what they make if not inflation and Iran? Trump promised ON DAY ONE he would make America more affordable. I have an entire montage of Trump saying it over and over on the campaign trail. But everything he has done has caused prices to go up.

Workers have gone years without a new contract

The unions and the MTA have been negotiating a new contract since 2023, with talks stalled over workers’ salaries and healthcare premiums. President Donald Trump’s administration got involved in September after unions asked for a panel of experts to be appointed, but they couldn’t reach a deal. The unions were legally allowed to strike starting at 12:01 a.m. Saturday.

Looks like Trump isn't the master negotiator he thinks he is. Failed at this too?

Hochul, a Democrat, has blamed the Trump administration for cutting mediation short in September and pushing the negotiations toward a strike. Trump, a Republican, said on his Truth Social platform that he had nothing to do with the strike.

“No, Kathy, it’s your fault, and now looking over the facts, you should not have allowed this to happen,” Trump said.

The buck stops where?

Here is the drop mic moment

The unions, which represent locomotive engineers, machinists, signalmen and other train workers, have said more substantial raises were warranted to help workers keep up with inflation and rising living costs.

Who caused inflation and rising living costs dummy? Biden?

Isn't Long Island were the last bastion of gop voters near NYC live?

I'd not be surprised if the NY governor's failing to work with the union is not intentional.

Isn't that what you guys said about Iran? Who cares right? We don't get our oil from there. Ha! Trump's policies are destroying America. Here is just one other example. How bad do things have to get before you maybe decide you backed the wrong man?

The Unions were ready to strike in September. All Trump did was invoke a law that mandates a "cooling off period" for both sides to continue negotiations.

That period ended 12:01 AM Saturday morning.

Since they started whining in 2023, this is on Bidenflation.

Oops!

The greatest inflationary force in the "Tri-State Area" (NY-CT-NJ) is public sector employment. I read once that one forth of the entire population either works for some agency or is supported by someone who does. And that doesn't count contractors, service providers, vendors, and consultants. The worst "government" agency in the entire country, from the standpoint of fleecing the people, is the Port Authority.

And all of the non-management employees of all of these agencies are members of Collective Bargaining Units. "Management" in that region has a habit of giving away the figurative store in negotiations, because whatever they give to the union ends up in their own paychecks and benefits within a year or two.

I realize that blaming Trump, as done in the OP, is meant to be inflammatory, but blame the State legislators who foolishly granted these hundreds of thousands of government workers the right to strike. A pox on all their houses.

Years huh? Why didn’t Biden fix it, Stupid?
He did. Inflation was down when Biden left office. Trump's war in Iran and Tariffs caused them to reach a breaking point.

Because of Covid we came off a tough 4 years. Biden did a great job getting us through it. Trump told you he'd roll back prices. We knew that was a lie but keeping inflation in check would have been good enough. If Trump didn't close Hormuz or tariff the entire world no way these guys would be going on strike.

The MTA is the most wasteful union I've ever come across in my working career in NYC. Piss-poor management. This had to happen because that union is out of hand.
