U.S. Details Agreement With Iran as Trump Departs G7 Summit

The terms of the preliminary agreement between the United States and Iran would reopen the Strait of Hormuz, outline a $300 billon plan for Iran’s reconstruction, and lift restrictions on the country’s oil exports, according to details described by a senior U.S. official on Wednesday.

But the agreement, whose terms had been unclear since its announcement on Sunday, would push talks about Iran’s nuclear program — President Trump’s oft-stated priority — into a 60-day negotiation period that could be extended by “mutual consent.”
The U.S. will lift sanctions on Iran’s oil industry when a preliminary deal is signed in what amounts to a major financial win for the country. Iran’s energy industry — the lifeblood of its economy — has been subject to financial restrictions for many years.
Senator Bill Cassidy, the Louisiana Republican whose re-election bid ended after he lost to a Trump-backed challenger, criticized the war in Iran and the proposed agreement to end it. “This is the worst foreign policy blunder in decades,” he said in a social media post.

Cassidy wouldn't be saying that if he had won his primary. Not because it isn't true. But because he would need the vote of trump fans to win in the general. And trump fans don't take kindly to observations like that.

I was struck by this complete, hypocritical about face on the return of Iranian assets after Don and the entire right wing of the country torched the JCPOA agreement.

Trump was pressed by a Fox News reporter on the difference between giving Iran billions of dollars and unfreezing $300 billion in Iranian assets. The Obama-era nuclear deal, which Trump repeatedly criticizes, also unfroze Iranian assets.

“We have taken their money,” he said. “It’s not our money. It’s their money and we froze it. At a certain point in time I guess we have to give it back.”

Unbelievable.

How much of that $300 billion is Israel contributing considering Trump went to war for Israel though he'll never admit it.

Remarks by Cassidy, Tillis & Cornyn mean nothing considering Trump has been their puppet master for the past ten years.

I take your meaning but I look at it a different way. They can finally be honest about the way things are since they don't have to court trumple's votes any longer.

Vance in answer to a question about it a few days ago said it will be funded by "Gulf states." So presumably the countries Iran attacked as US proxies.

The preliminary deal also calls for the end of military operations in Lebanon, where Israel has been waging a campaign against Hezbollah, although Israel has said it is not a party to the deal. On the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran effectively closed at the war’s start, sending oil prices surging, the agreement said Oman and Iran would hold talks over its administration.

Seems to include the possibility for Iran/Oman to collect tolls for passage thru the Strait.

The great peace President Trump adds another notch to his belt for bringing peace to yet another war. What is he up to, around 10 so far? Bet ya the Nobel Foundation snubs him again.

The text said that Iran “reaffirms that it shall not procure or develop nuclear weapons,” a point Mr. Trump emphasized in a wide-ranging news conference at the G7.

But what assurances are there? Is Iran shipping almost all its enriched uranium out of the country like it did after the JCPOA? Will there be IAEA inspections?

Didn't see Trump fetch questions from the press today, huh? He addressed
your concerns, not what you're inferring.
