They are going to take your gas furnace and force you into heat pumps…they don’t work in winter….

The U.K. Is in the middle of this fight but it is coming to the U.S………..the global warming cult is going to force normal people to have inefficient heat pumps in their homes instead of natural gas furnaces……….

Heat pumps do not work in cold winters and deep snow…but keeping you warm isn’t the goal……limiting your access to energy is the goal….

The price tag for this work on an average-sized bungalow was £18,000.

Part of the ongoing socialist interference the U.K. has implemented in the lives of their citizens seems to include an “environmental score” for your home. Forcing you into a heat pump is meant to improve it. You’ll feel better as you freeze to death as the warm glow of saving Gaia should be enough to keep you alive. There’s always the town library if it’s not.

Lord Willie Haughey, the business tycoon, said the heating system is unsuitable for the Scottish climate as its performance declines markedly in freezing weather.

The Labour peer said some units can stop working properly at temperatures of -5C (23F), or require more electricity to function properly, resulting in higher bills.

Legionnaires’ disease
He said this was because of the colder climate and warned “legionnaires’ disease can thrive in lower temperatures in hot water systems”.

Lord Haughey added: “My staff are always telling me I should not criticise our core business but this is eco nonsense being peddled by the Greens. I’d like to challenge Patrick Harvie to a debate on the science of

Legionnaires disease?

Really?

I have a Heat Pump in my house in Maryland.
Overall, it is very efficient and cost effective

When it gets extremely cold (single digits ) it struggles to keep the house warm. But those days are rare in Maryland. It handles temperatures above 20 degrees quite easily

Maryland is not a state of brutally cold winters, like the Midwest.

I just had an estimate of what it will cost to get new HVAC installed, and the law-droppingly high estimate included a BACK-UP heater, because HVAC is inadequate for our winters here in SD.

We are talking -25° nights, which we had plenty of this past winter.

The goal is the elimination of CO2 emissions. No one that I've heard is being forced to replace functioning heating systems. And if you don't think heat pumps work, you might as well throw out your air conditioner and your refrigerator/freezer because they are the exact same mechanism using the exact same process.

I just replaced the furnace in an 1100 sq ft house in the middle of summer. It cost $11,000

Were you under the impression that the bills for any form of heater were independent of the differential between inside and outside temperatures?

Frozen people have a smaller carbon footprint.

Heat pumps sell for as little as $1,500 at Lowe's (with free delivery) ... {Cite} ... cheaper than a replacement for a basic York gas furnace ...

My mother's system basically shoe-horned into the old gas system ... and only the A/C parts were installed outside, the heater portion was still inside ... all worked great when temperatures were below 0ºF for weeks at a time ... and above 110ºF ... her electric was all hydro, dirt cheap ... open windows all winter long was an extra $10 on the monthly bill ... nothing for Grandma Moneybags ...

Dipshit.........air conditioners are not used in under 20 degree weather are they? You dipstick.....

I have no problem if you want a heat pump....knock yourself out......the problem is the government mandating you replace it....when yours goes out.....simply to appease their global warming cult..........while the global warming cult priesthood....obama, biden and the leadership of the democrat party and other rich leftists around the world, continue to live on the coasts in huge mansions...with gas heaters, ovens and furnaces....you idiot.

Anecdotal.

And standard heat pumps are awful below 20º F. A heat strip is needed for proper warmth with standard heat pumps.

This is why, traditionally, heat pumps are only recommended for climates where the temperature rarely dips below freezing during the winter. They are not as effective when it’s very cold, in most cases.
However, most heat pumps can be modified with electric “heating strips.” When switched on, these strips provide an extra source of heat for the pump, allowing it to work efficiently at any temperature - this could add more money to your power bill.
Most standard heat pumps will function at 100% efficiency until the outside temperature reaches about 40° F.
However, when the temperature dips below this, most heat pumps are not able to maintain efficiency. They become much less effective at temperatures between 20° F to 30° F. At lower temperatures, the heat pump will use a lot more energy and will not heat your home as efficiently.

Non-standard systems, ductless ones, are a different matter as the newest ones can provide real heat down to 5º F and some claim lower, but I need to see at what efficiency cost at below zero Fahrenheit.

Based on our research, the best cold climate heat pump is Mitsubishi’s Hyper-Heating, or H2i. Listed as Mitsubishi’s M-Series or P-Series for home installation, these heat pumps maintain their full heating capacity down to 5F, and can produce useful heat down to -13F.

The author in your linked article gives no explanation so I was wondering what you think he might have meant by this comment.

I suspect that he means a heat pump installation can maintain a well built home at temperatures to which thermostats are commonly set, at ambient temps down to 40F. But that, of course, is not "100% efficiency".

No ... it's an advertisement ... Lowe's sells heat pumps for $1,500 ... I'm sorry you got ripped off ... being you live where temperatures drop below 32ºF, I don't think much of your choices or opinions ...

If water on the ground ever freezes outside your home ... you've made a terrible terrible mistake ...

Most of us have heat combo AC/heat pumps here in Central Florida.

Works fine for the few days and nights when it gets down in the 50s and mid 40s. However it sucks for heating much cooler than that. We have to supplement with heat strips that are really inefficient.

Never would work in a cool climate.

These Environmental Wackos are idiots.

Uh, what?

I was referring to anecdotal over what you said in regard to the statements you made regarding your mother's heat pump. 👇🏻

English your second language or something? ... you can put your heater outside your home if you want ... no one's stopping you ...

Heat pumps sell for $1,500 at Lowe's .. I'm sure the $18,000 you spent was worth it ... sure ... I'm just suggesting you got ripped off ...

WTF are you talking about? I don't have a heat pump, I never said I do, and yet here you are saying I spent $18,000 on one. 🤡

Best bang for the buck is upgrading your insulation and weatherproofing. DIY if possible.
