Fact: surgery on genitals for transgender purposes is not medically recommended under 18. That is reasonable. At 18 they can get married, have kids, join the army, buy a gun. I would support making any surgical procedures for transgender purposes illegal under 18. No problem. Just like I support making conversion therapy illegal.

Anything else is up to the parents and if it is medical it is between parents, child and doctor based on the best available medical guidelines for treatment, NOT the state, NOT you!

Beyond that, if a parent wants their kid to see a drag show, it is up to them. If they don’t want their kid to see a drag show, it is up to them. Drag performances do not belong inside schools, but if a local business hosts an age appropriate Drag Queen Brunch as an open public event, then I’m fine with that too. Is what Desantis claimed. Not that 15 year old girls had had their teats removed, or 18 year old were having the genital surgery. Even your article affirms that.

He said they "WANT TO. . ." and not specifically that they are doing it. The list of medical facilities in the article I link specifies some are doing gender surgery on CHILDREN, adolescents, teens.

Now you can try to demonize DeSantis for addressing a problem at lot of us think it is critical to address given the way things have been going, but he is right. NO "GENDER AFFIRMING TREATMENT" of ANY kind should be done on anyone under Age 18 and that must be the law. If I was writing the law I would make the age limit 25 as that is when a person's brain is fully formed and the person is a completed biological adult and fully emotionally developed and most likely knows who and what he/she is.

DeSantis is also right that most of the gender issues labeled 'gender disphora' resolve by the time the person reaches adulthood. Currently only 14 states have laws prohibiting 'gender-affirming care' on persons under the legal age of majority and those states are demonized and damned by leftists who don't want those laws to exist.

Nope he is not right if simple taking them to a therapist/counselor to discuss it is considered treatment. Reassignment surgery should be reserved for 17 year old teens with parental consent or emancipated teens (17) as well. I also think that should be the requirement for breast removal also.

He was not talking about simply taking them to a therapist and you know it. However any ethical therapist would advise the parent and child that gender affirming care is not recommended for anyone under age 18 and preferably 21 or 25.

And reassignment surgery should he reserved for people no younger than 21. If you have to be 21 to buy or use hard liquor, 21 should be the minimum age to get transgender surgery. I personally think the minimum age should be 25. If that was the law I'm pretty sure 99% of the people would no longer want it.
