In the 'olden days' parents were required to feed, house, clothe, and not abuse their children. Those who could not or would not do that would lose their children until such time as they were willing and able to properly care for those children. As a result there were still poor children but most got breakfast before they went to school and they didn't go hungry on weekends and summertime when the schools were closed. Was there still child neglect and abuse? Yes. But it was rare.

In my opinion puberty blockers. mutilating surgeries, harmful hormones given to children, even by parents, constitutes child abuse and those parents should be required to cease and desist or lose those children for the physical and emotional well being of the children. Any person doing that to a child without parental consent should go to prison for aggravated child abuse that does or could do irreversible harm.
