Anyone that uses a gun in a crime gets publicly crucified ...now that is a REAL deterrent. Today's death penalty is too easy ....get a shot and go to sleep. The public needs to see the consequences, if it is going to deter others.
Why would any law abiding citizen be against it? Too gruesome? How gruesome is all the murders we see everyday on the news?
Yesterday in Maryland, a law enforcement officer drove to a school and shot his wife to death in front of lots of witnesses. Then went to a mall and shot three more, killing one who was trying to help the first victim. Then they found he had shot another woman in the parking lot of a restaurant and killed her. He was eventually arrested. But there is no death penalty in Maryland, so the murderer gets free room and board, and free medical care the rest of his life.
It's time to thin the heard of rabid humans in this country, like they do other rabid animals. It's the humane thing to do. You're not going to rehabilitate them. And like Charlie Manson, they should never be let out on the street ever again.
I bet that when the Romans were using crucifixion, the crime rate was very low.
And not just for gun crimes, but for all capital crimes. Prison populations would plummet, saving tax payers hundreds of billion$.
Since we have to watch all these criminal acts on television, it should not be a problem to see the consequences.
