The housing market failure was directly linked to the Clinton Administration's decisions regarding bank regulation and their push to force more lending to low income people who were not credit qualified to purchase a home. The history of who opened Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac is crystal clear.

I recall back in the late 70s-early 80s (when jobs began leaving the country) most Americans SWORE to high heaven that they would not buy from Japan. Most held out as long as they could - but with the onslaught of japanese cars and trucks - and couple with a plant or two in the US - we caved.
