Another example is at one confession I was happy to report that I did not sin all week. The priest said,"You never stole a cookie? You don't hate your brother and sister? That is truly unfortunate. I can relate.

In first grade I was accused of stealing a candy bar from a fellow student - which I did not steal. When they went around checking desks, the student who actually stole the candy bar shoved it in my desk when I wasn't looking. So I was the scapegoat - and as much as I pleaded with the teacher that I was innocent and the true culprit was the other student - the more trouble I would get into because now the teacher thought that I was accusing an innocent student for something I did.
The teacher never relented - after some time, tears running down my face - she forced me to say that I stole the candy bar. I was put on disciplinary action and forced to have daily progress reports signed by my parents for the rest of the semester. I was 6 years old.
