Without getting all into the weeds, we should be able to agree that we have accurate yearly records of the level of national debt going back many decades, so yes, the debt almost doubled from 2008 ($10.025 trillion) to 2016 ($19, 573 trillion). The debt nearly doubled on Obama's watch, in spite of all the other good things that might be said about the man.
