1- Soccer

Nothing is as exciting as football and the NFL.
Sorry, those are GAMES, these are sports....

I bet Dick Vitale would disagree with that. :auiqs.jpg:

Baseball is exciting for those who are knowledgeable of the sport.

The same can be said for all sports.
Try filling out the lineup card, knowing your players' proclivities and those of your opponents, then following the pitch count with runners on base...The game flies by.

I love the game, but never was fond of watching it unless it was a really good game.
I liked to play it, boy is that some kinda past-tense. 😆

They take a one hour game and turn it into a 3 hour telecast. By definition 1/3rd of the time the ball is dead.

Not sure why that would excite anyone.

Professional soccer is much more action-packed.
Soccer is constant action, but the action is non-stop running, kicking, and flopping on the ground faking injuries.

There are a lot of sports that are boring, especially when you know little about them. I remember as a yoot watching a pocket billiards match on television, telling my dad that it was boring because there were very few difficult shots being made. He explained to me that the ART of the game is controlling the position of the cue ball, so that each subsequent shot IS easy.

Soccer is literally the most popular sport in the world and it is in every way a SPORT, requiring strength, skills, endurance, et cetera, et cetera. BUT it is a terribly boring sport, and the higher the level of competition the more boring it is.

The reason why it is boring is this: for the vast majority of the playing time, there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING that can happen (other than an injury) that can have any effect on the outcome of the game.

Think about it. On every play in American football, there can be a score. Basketball, 90% of the time a goal can be scored. In baseball, every pitch can result in a hit or a run. In tennis, every shot can produce a point. But in soccer (aka football), if the ball isn't reasonably close to the goal, a point is not possible, and the higher the level of competition, the less time the ball spends in "scoring position."

You could produce the highlights of an entire World Cup competition in a 7-minute video. Maybe 5.

Borrrrrrrrrring.
Your ignorance is astounding.

You have no idea of the precise athleticism it takes to consistently hit 2" ball with a 3' stick.
measure, swing? there is a reason so many golf courses exist
just some practice and you can do it
you might not be good enough for pro but hell......even TRUMP plays golf

Was much more interesting before emphasis was put on hitting the big gapper or homer, over the strategy of little ball.
You mean like bases loaded and all you need an infield drive to get somebody home and win the game?

It's not just "some practice".

So many moving parts to put that 2" X 4" face on the end of the 3' stick on the ball, and do it well, takes an athleticism of copious repetition.

No...Like laying down a quality bunt to get your slow runner to 2nd, then getting your following slap hitter to poke one to the opposite field so he can score.

Nobody does that schitt anymore....They're all swinging for the fences.

I was kinda gettin' at the same thing.

Soccer's biggest rap to me is it's biggest plus. If an American Football game is 21-14; people think, wow...they put some points on the board. That is only 5 scores. In Soccer, that would be a 3-2 match. 5 goals. Its the same thing. If Soccer gave points instead of goals, maybe it would be more attractive?

Not only is this a curious silliness of the American fandom, where Soccer really elevates above most other sports is not in the game but in the construction of the league. The English Premier League for example. The top four teams qualify for the Champions League which is recognized as the ultimate tournament for club soccer. The top 6 (I think) qualify for Europa League play. All of that is fine and good of course although I think some of the players on these top clubs would probably rather have the time off. LOL.

The real genius is in the bottom of the table (aka standings). The bottom three teams each year don't get the #1 draft pick; they get kicked out of the league. This drives club owners batty sometimes, it generates incredible amounts of interest in games that would mean nothing otherwise. Picture my Raiders playing the NY Jets. The fans don't want to be there, the players don't want to be there, the announcers don't want to be there...I don't think the insects in the grass want to be there. The players are literally playing for their earning potential down the line. They aren't just "playing out the string" as the Raiders do starting in Late September every year.

Add in the way the games are managed--it's a tight 2 hours or less, the centuries old rivalries, the buy-in from the communities (if you want to have fun look at some of the EPL stadiums and their proximity to the closest house; an errant ball could wind up in your kitchen). Fulham Football Club; Craven Cottage.

I don't think there is a question that big time soccer is much more exciting than other sports...

yes, with any sport you need to practice
swing too high you miss, swing too low you hit the turf

hockey still takes more practice, first you need to skate like
you know how to walk and backward too

pitchers in baseball, throw 4 different pitches up to 100
in just the right spot is some massive skill and the best
almost make it look easy

Not just skate, Ice skate. Forwards and backwards.
You have to keep a stiffer ankle with ice skating.
I seriously doubt there's ever been any great hockey players from Florida.

Not more, just different.

Hockey also requires the stamina that no other sport does...Forwards on the ice for more than 20:00 a game are total studs.

Baseball pitchers are freaks of nature.....No amount of practice can make anyone throw a ball at 90 mph.

The USA player who scored the winning goal in the Olympics is from Florida from what I heard.
