What do you say? Is Lebron or Michael the GOAT in the NBA? I say it's still about the number of championships. That's why Nicklaus is the GOAT in golf and Brady is the GOAT in football and Michael is the GOAT of the NBA. Lebron has a case given his longevity and 4 rings with 3 different teams. But the number is still SIX set by Michael.

LeBron can't hold Jordon's jock strap. LeBron had to chase winning teams
to get his rings, Jordan and Co. built their teams. Magic Johnson was more of
a GOAT than LeBron, as was Larry Bird. And neither Jordon, Johnson, or Bird ever carried the
nickname "Flop" as Lebron has.

Sure he has.

🏀 The most famous example

After winning the 2016 NBA Finals with the Cavaliers (coming back from 3–1), he said:

“I’m the greatest basketball player people have ever seen.”

That’s basically him calling himself the GOAT, even if he didn’t use the exact acronym in that moment.

😄 More casual / direct moments

He’s also said it more directly in lighter situations. For example, in a video with his kids:

“I’m GOAT bro. G-O-A-T.”

Two different players, two different eras, two different styles. LeBron is the more well-rounded player, but Jordan was poetry in motion.

As far as character is concerned, neither are model humans.

Bill Russell won 11 championships in 13 years.

No

If you never watched Wilt Chamberlain play, you don't know what a GOAT is. Physically, he was like a seven foot Michael Jordan, but he played his entire career under NBA rules that were designed to contain him.

He was the greatest offensive and defensive player who ever lived. How do you think these other wannabes would have done playing in Converse tennis shoes against zone defenses?

In some ways I don't blame people for thinking Lebron is the GOAT. I get it. There is a great argument for how he has been the greatest player on the court for 20 years. Amazing. But the entire story of Lebron just isn't as impressive as Jordan's story. He had to rise above Larry, Magic and the Bad Boys. Once he retired those three great teams he 3 peated. Then he stepped away for a couple years but then came back, and 3 mother f'ing peated again!!!

Do you know how much I hated this man? I never rooted for him to win one of those 6 rings. He was so great, I hated his ass. Hated!!! I don't hate Lebron. But I don't put him above Jordan because I know Jordan would have won 6 rings even if Lebron was in the league at the time. Would Lebron have won any championships if he played during the Jordan era? Hell no. Hell NAW. NAW f'ing way.

That's different. He wasn't even the lead scorer on that team.

Bill Russell did not lead the Celtics in scoring; he focused on defense and rebounding, while teammates like Tom Heinsohn, Sam Jones, and John Havlicek handled the primary scoring duties. While Russell is the team's all-time leading rebounder, John Havlicek is the Celtics' all-time leading scorer, followed by Paul Pierce and Larry Bird.

He is good, but he is no Jordan. He doesnt have the rings, or the character.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar holds the record for the most NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards in history, having won it six times during his career (1971, 1972, 1974, 1976, 1977, 1980).

Michael Jordan: 5 (1988, 1991, 1992, 1996, 1998)
Bill Russell: 5 (1958, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1965)
LeBron James: 4 (2009, 2010, 2012, 2013)
