55 million years ago the north shore of Alaska and Canada were much nearer the north pole than they are today

Since both are being moved by fault at center bottom of Atlantic, that estimate is questionable. Both were closer to North Pole 10, 20, possibly 30 million years but there is a "closest point to pole" on the arc of the motion (on a sphere) and 55 million years ago is before oldest ever estimates of North American Ice Age, which jives with current tectonic speed/distance, that Alaska/NA/Canada were closest to North Pole roughly 25 million years ago and 55 million would actually put both further south.
