The End of Democracy Has Already Begun

We are looking at a situation that we have not seen. We have a president who refuses to follow the decisions of the court, has committed multiple unconstitutional acts, and yet if anyone states the obvious here, they are censored. It has seemed to be fine that on today, there are multiple threads saying that Democrats are not Americans, support Hamas, or do not support America, but to state that the end of democracy has come under this president gets cancelled.

The End of Democracy Has Already Begun

The corruption of democracy begins with the corruption of thought—and with the deliberate undermining of reality. Stephen Richer, an election official in Arizona, and Adam Kinzinger, a former Republican congressman, learned firsthand how easily false stories and conspiracy theories could disorient their colleagues. They talk with hosts Anne Applebaum and Peter Pomerantsev about how conformism and fear made it impossible to do their jobs.

This is the first episode of Autocracy in America, a new five-part series about authoritarian tactics already at work in the United States and where to look for them.

We have one person here who has challenged anyone to try starting a revolution. But he was fine with what happened 1-6 over a lie told by the current president. One side does not determine what is American. In a free society, there will e transgendered people, gay people and others who might not fit the so called norm. Allowing people to be free enough to do this is what separates us from Sharia law. It is time the rightwing fundamentalists learned this. You have the freedom to rightwing fundamentalists all you want, but you do not have the right to force everybody else to live by your fundamentalism. You have the right to be a racist, at home and in your private social settings, but you do not have the right to enforce your racism on everybody else. This attitude by a group of Americans must be put in its place, and its place is on the fringes, not mainstream.
We never had a democracy.

dude, the jaws of life could not yank your sorry cranium outta your large intestine ~S~

I have no reason to fear, young boy. You are the one who should be worried.
I am not worried. I am not afraid of my own shadow. Or of the opposite skin color.

I am not the pitiable man I speak to now.

Seriously, you idiots are running a communist for NYC mayor and you're worried about democracy.

The last thing I am is scared. You are scared of the truth; therefore, you make yourself believe lies. I don't fear any man because no man can harm me.

“And fear not them which kill the body but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”

Matthew 10:28
Learn this principle, young boy, then understand just how much you've got everything all wrong.

You have nothing but self-assurances and assumptions. How truly pathetic.

More Left Wingnut Communist crying because their "people's farce" is failing.
"The Atlantic" is a classic Leftwing pseudo-liberal socialist-communist pravda, for upper-class elites slumming as if they are "working class".

Anne Applebaum is a staff writer at The Atlantic. She is also a senior fellow at the SNF Agora Institute at Johns Hopkins University and the School of Advanced International Studies.

You and your fellow race baiters and commie deviants should flee before it's too late! Run! If you need a ride to the border or the airport, we'll be glad to get you and your ilk there by the train loads!

I don't have any anxiety, young dumb boy. And what we have seen since 2016 was a pandemic that killed more people in this country than in ANY other. That was one warning, but you guys don't want to listen. Today, there is massive flooding in Central Texas. The United States has been hit hard by all kinds of storms more frequently. There have been all kinds of fires out west. Tornadoes have torn up the southeast and mid mid-east in the winter. The water level is dropping out west. These are things you don't seem to see when you talk stupid about me saying things and they don't come to pass. What hasn't come to pass is your intelligence boy.

Trump is acting like a dictator; his cabinet does whatever he tells them. That didn't happen in 2016, dumb boy. This nation is in trouble, and it isn't my fault you're too stupid to see it.
Then why are you crying every day?

Man up...boy....

The only race baiters and commie deviants around here are you and the other right wingers.

You raise some strong points here. The erosion of democratic norms through election denial, institutional defiance, and ideological conformity is real and well documented. You're right to call out how fear and falsehoods can shape public behavior, and how religious nationalism is being used politically in ways that threaten pluralism.

That said, I wonder if some of the framing here might be overstating things. Saying democracy has already ended might be a bit like declaring the movie over at the midpoint—there’s still a third act, and the ending isn’t written yet. We still have functioning courts, elections, and a press that can challenge power. And while cancel culture can suppress speech, it often cuts in multiple directions and isn’t always top-down.

Still, your core message is important. Democracy doesn’t collapse all at once—it erodes when people stop noticing the small breaks in the foundation. You’re right to draw attention to those cracks, and I appreciate how clearly you laid it all out.

The sheep being told if they don't vote or act a certain way we will lose something the US has never been, a Democracy. This country has always been a Constitutional Republic. That is the way the founding Father designed it.

If anyone is a threat to this country it's the idiots on both sides who want more government.

/----/ Ending democracy is a good thing. No more democRATs mob rule.

Article IV, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution states: "The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence". This section emphasizes the federal government's responsibility to ensure a republican form of governance and provide protection to the states.

Stupid young boy, things do not just suddenly turn. There is incremental destruction, and we are seeing that right now. Why ignore it day in and day out? Ignoring this will make you ignore events that are way more consequential.
/---/ Nope - thngs are changing pretty fast and in the right direction.
