Thief leaves photo of self in stolen car
* Police hope an impromptu moment captured on film will help land a suspected car thief in the pokey.
Tucson police Friday released a snapshot they said appears to have been taken by car thieves who left the camera behind when they ditched the car.
The photo shows a young man mugging for the camera from behind the wheel of the stolen car and making what police say are gang-related hand gestures.
The 2003 Chrysler Sebring was stolen from the 900 block of West Irvington Road early in September. Police found it about two weeks later, said Sgt. Judy Altieri, a Police Department spokeswoman.
The car owner recently developed the camera's film and notified police of the snapshot investigators hope will break the case.
Anyone with information about the identity of the person in the photo should call 911 or 88-CRIME, the anonymous tip line of the Pima County Attorney's Office.
