What kind of a man is Gov Rick Perry? He's the kind of man who leaves his state during a disaster to campaign for higher office, while his Lt Gov is left to do the real work in a time of crisis.

Anyone who supports or votes for Rick Perry should have their head examined.

BASTROP, Texas, Sept. 9 (UPI) -- Texas Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst called on President Barack Obama Friday to declare Texas a major disaster area because of wildfires.

"Mr. President, we need a statewide disaster declaration right away. ... We need help from FEMA right away," Dewhurst said at a news conference at the Bastrop convention center.

CNN reported Dewhurst, acting as governor while Republican Gov. Rick Perry is campaigning, told residents he had signed a second letter to Obama seeking the declaration after he got no response to a request earlier this week.

"We need help yesterday," Dewhurst said.

"There were 176 fires burning in Texas on Wednesday and 120 of them were in East Texas," Texas Forest Service spokesman Warren Bielenberg was quoted by the Houston Chronicle as saying. "Of the 20 new fires that popped up this same day, we found 19 of them in East Texas."

Wait? You are complaining about Perry? When the REAL news is they already ask for Disaster relief once and were ignored that time and this? And you are going to vote for Obama? A President that won't se4nd FEMA cause Texas is run by a Republican? A President that does not even respond to a request for relief?

And you complain about Perry?

Note that I just made the below comment in another thread a few days ago.

Is this any surprise really? The fires have been raging for some time now BUT he decides now that he's needed back in the Republic of Texas :rolleyes: He skipped the first debate and now he bails on this one. :clap2: Whats up bruh? I think he KNEW he was going to be asked some tough questions. The Forum was set-up for participants to be individually questioned by three people and he could'nt take the heat apparently ;)

Gov. Rick Perry to Skip Labor Day Forum, Return to Texas to Address Wildfires - Summerville, SC Patch
Perry was scheduled to attend Senator Jim DeMint's forum of Republican presidential contenders in Columbia at 3 p.m.
And if he hadn't gone back then people would criticize him for campaigning while his state is burning to the ground. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Thanks for proving me right, Mustang, with your faux outrage.

Looks calculated. Perry could've asked for it when he ducked the second debate to go back there. The day after he leaves to campaign some more his Lt. Gov comes out asking for FEMA & Federal aid? Puhleeease.

You need to pay better attention. Perry already asked for Aid Days ago, and was ignored.

President Obama is playing politics with FEMA and the left does not care.

FEMA has no monies to send to Perry

Wrong. And more importantly the President of the United States simply ignored two requests for FEMA. He did not even have the Courtesy to say No he just ignored them. That is a sitting President that is using politics to harm fellow Americans DIRECTLY for political purposes.

Sounds like an impeachable offense to me, but the Senate would never go along since all they care about is politics.

Additional resources responding to the extreme fire danger include:
• Federal air assets including one DC-10 to Midland and two C-130s operating out of Abilene and Del Rio to assist with fire suppression efforts;
• Texas Forest Service – more than 750 personnel and 22 air assets deployed to multiple fires;
• Texas Military Forces – Four Blackhawk helicopters remain on alert, two each in San Antonio and Austin, for rapid deployment to assist with fire suppression efforts;
• Texas Department of Transportation has provided bulldozers and other resources in affected areas;
• Texas Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol and Texas Division of Emergency Management Regional Liaison Officers have been deployed.

BASTROP — Firefighting-trained volunteers from around the state converged on Bastrop and Smithville Tuesday to lend a hand to the beleaguered local firefighters battling the Bastrop County Complex Fire — only to be sent away as federal officials arrived at the scene and took command, apparently because local officials never made a formal request for volunteers.

In the short run, Perry's ditching the campaign for the emergency command in Austin could help him contrast himself with other candidates, including Obama. But at some point, the campaign may have to explain the philosophical contradictions between Perry's ideological view of federal power and his more practical willingness to rely on federal largess to solve the state's fire problem.

You fucking whackjobs are retarded.

There's a HUGE thread around here full of moonbats, just like you, bitching, moaning and pissing your pants accusing Perry of trying to duck out of the debate because he went to Texas to tend to the fires.

In fact, in that very thread, the question is asked "How long before some dumbass starts a thread bitching because he did go to the debate?"

Same damned thing; campaigning.

Can you tell me why our current President just used a joint session of Congress to kick off his campaign tour?
You think that is very Presidential?

FEMA Authorizes Funds to Fight Fires in Multiple Texas Counties
Release Date: September 6, 2011
Release Number: R6-11-112

DENTON, Texas -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has authorized the use of federal funds to help fight fires in multiple counties in Texas. This follows requests over the holiday weekend for fire management assistance declarations from state officials.

The fires have been burning in Bastrop County; Montgomery County; Travis County; Williamson County; and along the county lines of Grimes, Waller and Montgomery Counties.

The addition of these seven latest Fire Management Assistance Grants (FMAGs) brings the total of approved FMAGs for Texas to 52 so far in 2011.

"We are committed to helping our state and local partners recover from these devastating fires," said FEMA Region 6 Administrator Tony Russell. "These grants will assist in the efforts to protect life and property."

The authorization makes FEMA funding available to pay 75 percent of state and local government eligible firefighting costs under an approved grant for managing, mitigating and controlling designated fires. Federal fire management assistance is provided through the President's Disaster Relief Fund and made available by FEMA to assist in fighting fires that threaten to cause a major disaster.
