For all of those on this thread saying that Texas is out of line and breaking the law and traditions, you need to know that Texas has already set precedent is redrawing district maps. They did in back in 2003, after regaining control of the state legislature for the first time in 130 years. Cases were brought against it. One of the cases was brought to the Supreme Court. The Supremes upheld Texas' new district map minus one district.

The US Supreme Court issued an opinion on the case in League of United Latin American Citizens v. Perry on June 28, 2006. While the Court said states are free to redistrict as often as desired, the justices ruled that Texas's 23rd congressional district was invalid, as it violated Section 2 of the 1965 Voting Rights Act by racial gerrymandering. This decision required lawmakers to adjust boundaries in line with the Court's ruling. So, that district, and four others nearby were redrawn and passed in Federal District Court.

So, I guess the other states threatening to redistrict their maps because of Texas have the green light to do so. BTW, a lot of those states threatening are already so gerrymandered. You can't say that the republicans of Texas are not following established precedent or rules. They, literally, got the precedent to do so two decades ago.

The Supremes said redistricting not due to the census was ok back in 2006. MAGA didn't exist in 2006. BTW, there's nothing stopping other states from doing the same thing.

Actually its a matter of "dog-eat-dog" or any other analogy you care to put up to describe that there are no rules when gerrymandering. Its maximize your seats, and minimize the opponent's seats, no holds barred. Or, as Hochul and Beto describe it, "its a war". Republicans are late to realize it, after the democrats let 12,000,000 illegals into the US to gain seats during the last census.
If Trump gets a new census without counting illegals, blue states will lose about 24 House seats.
That rat smell is the democrats.
I'm waiting for the FBI to unwrap who actually ordered the two assassination attempts on Trump.

Gerrymandering isn’t something that should be encouraged. Redistricting should be done by computer with only population and a mandate for compact districts as the main algorithmic criteria.

Both sides have done it and will do it in the future. Neither side has any moral high ground to stand on since they didn't complain when it benefited their side. That might be a good idea of how to do things, but do you think either side is going to "ruin" what they created?

If they don’t, that’s our fault. We can’t just give in, but have to keep the pressure on. Both sides are on the back foot at the moment. It’s time to be demanding. Like with the Epstein evidence, we can’t let up.

All residents, not just voters. Children are counted, for example.

The constitutions census counting requirement isn't limited to citizens. It specifically calls for all people to be counted. And lists folks who aren't citizens. The only people excluded from the census under the constitution are 'Indians not taxed'.
