Support the fast food workers

Is this what their pay (cash take home pay for spending) is in total, yet not to include housing, medical, education, military discounts, day care, electricity, base privileges, hobby shop, camping or recreational facilities, etc. ? Doesn't the military also have a pay scale system in which they merit the workings of the individual by upping his or her rank and pay as they do well over time or they pass the grade as is expected of them ? How come there are companies that rate internal jobs at one specific rate, and then no matter how well you do for them or how long you stay there or how much profit they make, you are stuck if don't quit the job and move on elsewhere ?

Well said.

Another thing, no matter what they get automatic raises for "time in grade".

There is also profiency pay, temporary duty pay [we had the armu europeon boxing champion in my artillery battery in germany who got paid extra tdy money and was never at the battery but was living it up all over europe. He was promoted many times for not actually serving any military duties.

So let me get this straight. The argument you want to go with is "Fast food workers are exploited, downtrodden, underpaid, and worth twice as much, but US soldiers are overpaid, lazy, and sucking off of society." You're actually thinking this is a winning argument? :eusa_eh:
How does the military get in the same conversation with the fast food workers anyway ? In fact it appears to me that the military needs to be demonstrating with the fast food workers, because they sure shouldn't be on the level as a fast food worker, but by the way people here have stated it, they are worse off than the fast food workers in this nation, and if so that is a shame and disgrace... Oh that's right, they can't join in with the freedoms that civilians have to protest and such, so they are really stuck. Thanks for making us aware of their terrible situation in this nation as well, and if they think like that about the military, then I hate to think what the upper echelon thinks about civilians in this nation. Wow!

Yes. Fortunately, I have not been brainwashed by big brother like you people.

I know computer technicians that are paid less then that.

Are you honestly saying that burger flippers should be paid more the skilled technicians?

Hell, fuck it all, let's just devalue the value of the Dollar by 50%. That way burger flippers can get their $15 an hour, and the socialist morons can shut up.

Because your comrade brought it up, saying the military was overpaid but the fast food workers were nothing but slaves.

Actually, we have almost all the same rights as a civilian. We simply can't protest in uniform, that is all. But we are free to join in any protest we want.

And we actually are better off then fast food workers. You see, we have job skills, and pride, and motivation, and the desire to improve ourselves. Unlike some slacker who spends 10 years going from minimum wage job to minimum wage job.

We also do not have a union, which I thank the heavens for. And in case you did not realize it, we work for the people of this country. But hey, if you want to give us a raise, then feel free to contact your congressman and demand we get more money.

But to be honest, I think I can expect to see you actually do that on the second Tuesday of... never.

No, I simply would never expect you or Snookie to put in even a fraction of this much passion and effort into getting the wages for the military raised. In fact, Snookie has already indicated he thinks it should be reduced.

So you could say that my integrity is unquestioned, but I have serious doubts as to your integrity. And if you reread what I said very carefully, you should comprehend that is exactly what I said.

Ask snookie. He brought military personnel into the argument

Why group me in with snookie, because for one thing I don't even know snookie, and I have never indicated that I think the military should have anything done to them in the ways of reducing the pay of the enlisted, but I bet the enlisted wish they had people representing them in an honest and fair way, instead of what they have had in the past. That hospital comes to mind, where the horrible conditions existed that were a part of excepting the troops back home or doctoring them up for a return to active duty. I remember it took Washington or the military to be embarrassed about it before anything was done. So sad! I think that is what is going on within the pay problems that people are griping about in the private sector, where as they want to embarrass these people for what they have been doing to people, and I hope it works if they are right about what they are doing.

Actually, we do have people representing us. UASU, Marine Corps League, and many others. These are the groups that lobby on our behalf.

"That Hospital" was Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Like most medical facilities, it took a tremendous hit in the 1990's, with many buildings being "mothballed" due to military budget cuts. The building in particular you are talking about was Building 18, effectively closed in 1996. Back in 1999 the Army requested that either the building be remodeled and returned to service or demolished and a new one built in it's place. That request was denied due to lack of funding.

It was reopened in 1999 with a "bandaid fix", and was used to house the students who were there for school. Requests were made yet again for the funding to fix or replace the building, but because the base was already under consideration for a future BRAC closure, this was once again denied.

Our military has been hurting for over 20 years because of the base closures from the Clinton administration. The 1993-1995 BRAC closed dozens of military bases and hospitals, and what was left was often at 120%+ capacity.

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qq0y4-iNBfg]Implosion! Oak Knoll Naval Hospital - Oakland, CA - YouTube[/ame]
That is the Oakland Naval Hospital being destroyed.

So the fact that the military health system is suffering should not be a surprise to anybody. And in many bases, it is getting even worse. William Beaumont Army Medical Center at Fort Bliss is an example I can describe to you first hand.

Designed to support around 6,000 soldiers and dependents, it is now having to support over 30,000. This is because the 1st Armored Division was moved there from Germany, and the population of the base grew 5 fold. And while some expansion was done on the hospital, it is just not enough. More and more is now outsourced to civilians out in town, and waiting periods for everything from ER to clinics has become insane (it took me over a month to get a GI Tract Scan for a gall bladder issue 2 years ago).

So if you want to complain about "those people", you need to be looking at Congress and the President. They are the ones who set DoD budgets, and decide what money goes where. And realize that when they go through and close 40 bases as a "cost savings measure", the people that are stationed there are moved to another base somewhere else, increasing the strain on their budgets and systems.

Oh no! I said something traitorous about the military.

I guess the military trolls will attack me now. That's what happens when you criticize the military in the US.

Look, you can say whatever you want about anything.

But do not be surprised when people like myself step forward and tell where you are wrong. Like those claims that the military is overpaid and get huge benefits that we do not get.

All I ever insist on is truth and the facts, your own personal opinions and beliefs are irrelevant to me to be perfectly honest.

Of course, I am one of those rare ones who is non-political and really does believe in equality for everybody. Not just for select groups and peoples who should be elevated above others, often far in excess of their talents and abilities.

Wait a minute I am confused now, because did you just actually say that you have people whom represent you all (i.e. lobby on behalf of you all) ?

Then how come unions that are talked about being needed sometimes in the private sector, is seen somehow as such a huge no, no to some then ? It sounds like having someone represent is a good thing in your mind, but only if it applies to the military and not beyond eh ? Can't the same problems affect workers in the civilian population, and in the same ways that the military is also affected with problems, and this be it in the lower ranks or as pertaining to bennies either being taken or given in these ranks ?

Did you just say go to the congress or government with these many problems, but I thought that is also a huge or big no, no to those who oppose giving government so much power and decision making over us any more, and that we should be down playing the governments roles now in everything ?

I hear it's hard to truly clean something that small.

Do you want to know what my problem is with Unions? This is a completely different kettle of fish, but here you go.

I see Unions as an exploitive and useless drain in most instances, little more then extortion.

Imagine if I had 20 thugs who stood outside of a work place and demanded that all workers pay 10% of their income to me or they would not be allowed to work. Well, if I tried that I would be in jail so fast it is not even funny. But for some reason, Unions are allowed to do just that.

And if the workers hold a vote and decide to not unionize, then they still get picketed because the Union can't stand having a non-union shop in an area where many others are union.

Now don't go thinking I am entirely anti-Union however. I do support most unions where workplace safety is a serious issue, like mines, oil rigs, and the like. Here the Unions fulfill a vital role, both in overseeing OSHA and the employers for safety, as well as taking care of the workers or their families if something bad does happen.

But far to many Unions have become institutions, and I simply do not see the reason for that. Yes, professional sports players were once abused by the teams, traded around like playing cards and making poverty wages. But when most league minimums are in the $1 million a year range, does anybody think that will ever return?

I believe that most unions should come and go as needed, not become permanent parts of industry sucking off money that should be going to the workers. And we all know how corrupt they are. At one time Unions provided a valuable pension service. Today nobody trusts their unions for this anymore, they are increasingly trying to shove it all on the employer (along with everything else) instead of actually doing something for that money they collect.

Now for groups like the AUSA and the like, they work off of donations, nobody is obligated to give them anything. And they actually all work together, since we all make the same income regardless of branch of service. So instead of one Union trying to work against another, the Association of the United States Army works together with the Marine Corps League and all the rest to work programs that benefit all of us.

However, more and more recently it has been a battle just to keep the benefits we already have. They were unsuccessful in preventing our GI bill from being butchered 2 years ago, and they still can't get the VA to take full responsibility for giving veterans their medical care.

But at least they stopped the administration from shoveling off disabled vets to private insurance, so that was a definite win.

And your last part really makes no sense at all. "Not go to the Government"? Members of the military are Government Employees, where else would they go to? Everything relating to military pay comes from the Congress and the President.

And no, there are some giant differenced between Military and Civilian employment. First of all, as a civilian you are free to quit at any time. Hate your boss, quit. Job relocating and you do not want to move, quit. Get a better job offer, quit and go there.

We in the military can't quit. We have contracts that mandate us to give at least 6 years of service. So if they pay is not enough and they cut our benefits, all we can do is suffer. We can't even strike or have a sickout. And if the housing we are offered is not fit to put livestock in, that is just to bad.

Well now, isn't it just special that you are appearing as the mean old nasty plantation owner in this post,

Yeah, because not letting the corrupt union bosses take their cut is slavery...

what (upset that someone might teach the uneducated that they may be worth just a little bit more in life, and that the owner of the plantation might could pay a little bit more if he was more ethical and moral in his ways)?

Plantations didn't pay, skinky.

See, had you made it all the way to third grade, you would have learned the difference between slavery, and wages.

Oh and Hoppy, they are NOT worth more than $8 an hour - any higher and prices have to go up, and people won't buy the shitty food. But you don't grasp any of this, because you lack the education requisite to grasp market economics.

Is this proven in your style of wording here, otherwise so you don't want anyone getting into your candy store do you, and man I bet you would want so badly to be the plantation owner in real time in order to have people down under your foot stool, just like you spoke in regards to the help in which you spoke about in this post in the way that you did...WOW.

Yawn, ignorant union goons incapable of formulating a cogent argument are boring.

Don't yall just love the way people act as if they are so smart here, and then the next thing you know they can't handle it, and they lose their cool like they do, thus exposing themselves in this way?

Were you trying to act smart? I didn't notice. I could be wrong, but I assumed you to be a janitor with some government agency making $200K a year, and feeling entitled to be supported on the backs of taxpayers after you retire at 50. I also figured you for at best a high school diploma.

Sounds like a guilty mind speaking here if you ask me, so what are you guilty of maybe ? Have you done good people that have worked for you "wrong" in the past ? I mean to lose it like you did in this post speaks multitudes about your positions or attitude on life, and especially upon the people who are around you in your life as well. Sad!

LOL

I expect value in return for value. These are concepts that you looters cannot grasp.

Hypocrisy and a double standard, there. Now he will tell you how wonderful the military is compared to union workers. He will tell you that unions are bad things. Whoops! He already did.
