Someone explain the supposedly 30,000 ventilators for New York?

According to the World Health Organization,
1 in 7 cases require hospitalization
and 5% require intensive care with ventilators to survive.

SO explain this math...
595,953 total cases as of 3/27/20 at 8:27 PM..
So according to the above:
1 in 7 cases require hospitalization or 595,953 divided by 7 equals 85,136 hospitalized Covid-19 patients .
AND of the 85,136 hospitalized.... 5% require ventilators or 4,257 ventilators....hmmm....

Please some one explain because IF I use 5% of the 595,953 cases need ventilators... that is 29,798 ventilators world wide!

Something doesn't make sense here...

It’s 5% of all cases require ventilators support. Not 5% of hospitalized patients.
Simple misunderstanding.

So 5% of all Coronavirus cases 615,519 (as of 3/28/20) would mean 30,775 ventilators are in USE now world-wide according to your misinterpretation.

Then where did Cuomo get his 30,000 ventilator requirements for how many cases... New York would have 615,519 cases alone?

Is that what you are saying? Again.. If New York will need 30,000 ventilators than that means New York would have 615,519 cases or With an estimated 19.45 million residents in 2019
that would mean 3% of New York would contract Covid-19 and 5% of the 615,519 or 30,000 ventilators.

See I'm just asking a logical question. If WHO says 5% of the hospitalized use ventilators and that 1 out of 7 cases are hospitalized... that would mean less than 5,000 ventilators in use NOW...again
according to the WHO. But YOU say 5% of the 615,519 require ventilators or about 30,000.... so does Gov. Cuomo think NY will have 615,519 cases when right now NY has 15,000 cases.
So tell me where the math is incorrect. New York has 15,000 cases today... to get to 615,000 cases that according to WHO require at most 30,000 ventilators... where did he gat that number?

You’re looking at numbers as they exist now. Cuomo is looking at what could happen in the future. If you wait to get ventilators only when you need them, you’re too late.

I agree... then please explain this:

As of Friday morning 3/17/20 , health officials have confirmed at least:
  • 44,635 total cases in New York State
  • 519 deaths from the coronavirus in the state
  • Over 25,398 cases in New York City
  • 365 deaths in New York City

According to the World Health Organization,
1 in 7 cases require hospitalization
and 5% require intensive care with ventilators to survive.

This means today in New York..with 44,635 cases 6,376 are hospitalized and 5% of hospitalized need ventilators or 400 ventilators are in use in New York.

Your math is incorrect as I already explained.

My MATH is NOT incorrect.
What maybe incorrect is the WHO estimate that 1 out of 7 cases require hospitalization. And of those hospitalized, 5% require ventilators.
That is pure and simple math then.
615,000 cases divided by 7 (i.e. 1 of 7 cases are hospitalized..right?) means 87,931 cases are hospitalized. So you think that ALL cases require ventilators...i.e. 87,931.
which is contrary to what the WHO states that 5% of the hospitalized require ventilators which would be 4,397 ventilators.
My math is NOT incorrect. The WHO assumptions maybe wrong.

How long do COVID-19 patients stay in hospital?
The UK’s Chief Medical Advisor Chris Whitty said yesterday in the government’s daily press conference the average patient spends eight days in hospital with COVID-19.
If a patient has serious complications and requires a ventilator, the stay is doubled to an average of 16 days.
The World Health Organisation says about 80 percent of people with COVID-19 recover without needing any specialist treatment.
Only about one in six becomes seriously ill “and develops difficulty breathing”.
"About 80% of people get a very mild illness and they recover uneventfully. That's important to realize," said Dr. Robert Glatter, an emergency medicine physician with Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City.
the percentage of people needing ventilators is very low

According to the World Health Organization,
1 in 7 cases require hospitalization
and 5% require intensive care with ventilators to survive.

For someone so inept at basic analysis my advice is to just not worry your pointy little head about it and leave it to professionals.

If you think Cuomo and New York hospitals are scrambling for ventilators because they just don't know math you need to think again and much harder.

Well I am asking a simple math question... how does 1 out of 7 Covid-19 cases or 85,136 and 5% according to WHO require a ventilator that works out to 4,267 ventilators of which by the way
as of right now the state of New York has over 4,000 ventilators now!

So why haven't those experts explained their needs instead of hollering about RIGHT NOW WE NEED 30,000 ventilators!
And in fact check out the above article and you'll find just that !
what % of the population gets infected, is the number we are missing.

Worst case is all 20 million New York citizens catch it due to it being a new coronavirus that does not have a vaccine yet..then 15%(14%) of those that catch it, needs hospitalization, that's 3 million NY citizens are hospitalized, and 5% of those that are hospitalized need ventilators, that's 150,000 needing ventilators... for a 5 month period during their peak,

So spreading out the 150,000 ventilator need over 5 months, is needing 30,000 ventilators.

This is the WORST case scenario.... if all 20 million catch it.....

But if we had a good sound number of what percentage of the total population that will catch it, that number would obviously go down if the whole population does not catch it.

The lack of testing kits, to get a handle on what percentage of the population is getting the virus is why Cuomo is estimating the worse....

According to the World Health Organization,
1 in 7 cases require hospitalization
and 5% require intensive care with ventilators to survive.

You don’t know wtf you are talking about. Just stop.

Before you do “math” you need to understand THE GIVENS, otherwise it’s garbage no matter how well your arithmetic is.

Did you know for example that there are actually patients other than covid-19 that need respirators?

Ok, how many?

Why even waste time asking that? What is it that makes you think that you need to second guess NY hospitals and Cuomo about how many ventilators they will need??

You fools seriously think you can figure out better than people scrambling to buy this equipment and set up the hospital bed capacity???

Because it is ridiculous....How many people right now in NY state wide are on a ventilator due to C-19?

You do know that other then NOW there is TOMMOROW that needs to be prepared for....right?

Rediculous is you sand-dwellers talking about shit you have no clue about calling professional decisions “rediculous”

NY about 50k beds and is scrambling to expand that capacity to about 140k to meet incoming coronivirus hospitalizations, most of which will need ventilation.
And there is a ship with 1,000 beds docking Monday!
Thank you, President Trump.

I gave a concrete example why you cannot trust the media.
You do know the nitwit speaking on the video, the one making a fool out of herself, was taped on Feb. 5, right? I hope she makes a public statement apologizing for being so totally wrong.
6th and long after the Trump travel ban. So if she didn’t know and she is the medical expert in the largest city in the US how would Trump? Do explain that one. And again this was after the China travel ban when Biden called him xenophobic. Imagine if he didn’t impose it.
FYI
That was less than a week from his travel ban announcement, it took a few days to fly all the Americans and Nationalists home, before the ban could take place...doubt we had tests to test them all.

The announcement of the ban... was late January 31st
And Biden still called him xenophobic and then the lead MD for NYC said this on Feb 6. How do you explain this?

What is your point? What did she say that is bending you out of shape?

That she didn't know therefore the President, With all of the federal agencies responsible for knowing this info, has an excuse for not knowing???

She spoke a week after the China travel ban. The #1 healthcare expert in NY. No one knew because China never disclosed the true severity of the virus. That is my point. Your TDS just won't let you think logically about it so you want to blame one person, Donald Trump.

You don't know that...All you are doing is spreading fear...

Now, with that said, I don't think it is a bad thing to be prepared, however, this over the top panic has to be settled down.

The coronavirus outbreak could kill 100,000 to 200,000 Americans, the U.S. government’s top infectious-disease expert warned on Sunday as family members described wrenching farewells through hospital windows with dying loved ones.

BUT did this article go on and state what Dr. Fauci HAS SAID? Of course not. Because the MSM wants to keep everyone panicked!

HERE is what Dr. Fauci said:
"There are things called models, and when someone creates a model, they put in various assumptions. And the model is only as good and as accurate as your assumptions.
And whenever the modelers come in, they give a worst-case scenario and a best-case scenario.
Generally, the reality is somewhere in the middle. I've never seen a model of the diseases that I've dealt with where the worst-case scenario actually came out. They always overshoot."

They always overshoot." They always overshoot." They always overshoot."

What's your point? You want to let everyone go back to work?

You're that stupid?

What's your point? You want to let everyone go back to work?

You're that stupid?
I'm obviously NOT as stupid as the MSM thinks people like YOU ARE!
You believe every headline/screaming sound bite..."we all are going to die"! 100,000 to 200,000 Fauci says will die"
BIG ass LIE! and idiots like you believe it all the while helping these biased MSM to have increasing advertising dollars!
Again Fauci said that the worst prediction in his experience are NEVER met... yet the headlines SCREAM "100,000 to 200,000 Americans to die!"
And continued idiots like you ignore the statement Fauci made:They always overshoot." They always overshoot." They always overshoot."
FACTS idiot that's what I deal with not hyperbole, hysteria, hacks that scream the sky is falling... all for ratings!
FACTS like these that shows the BIASED news presentation is for a reason!
In 2016, a study by the Center for Public Integrity showed that 96% of campaign donations by journalists went to Hillary Clinton, compared to just 3.5% which went to Trump.

But again... you believe this biased MSM as they are pissed at wasting the $$$s on Hillary!

And in fact check out the above article and you'll find just that !

You don't know that...All you are doing is spreading fear...

Now, with that said, I don't think it is a bad thing to be prepared, however, this over the top panic has to be settled down.

I know how to read and work at a hospital in NYC... so what is it you are saying I "don't know"?

"most coronivirus hospitalizationsl need ventilation" is stated right in the reference CDC materials from OP's article link. Why don't you go give it a look.
What would a janitor know about it?

I'm in middle management position, is that alright for you fuckface?
So, you hand out the mops. Good for you.

You just don't know when to quit your rediculous bullshit, do you?

At the peak, dope. Statewide. Not with today's numbers. Weeks from now. The same time that Fauci and Brix are telling us to expect 100 to 200k dead.
