I retired from this board after our greatest president in history, George W. Bush, had to leave office. I campaigned to eliminate term limits so he could win a third term but apparently I failed in that effort. During his outstanding performance in office, some of my best Candan friends objected to some of the great things my President accomplished. That's ok, because I know you people have a different "country." I have nothing against Candans, and in fact, some of my best Candan friends have taught me a few words of your language, like "eh". So if I ever went to your socialist country, I could say a few words in your language so you could understand me. Anyway, I assume that some of you people took classes in American as a second language in your schools. So I am going to write this in very simple American so you can understand. I have a problem with you people sending your socialist agents to America to make us adopt your socialist health care system. We reject socialism. Our socialist Commuinist Muslim "president" thanks to Acorn wants to make everybody have communist healthcare like you people and Cuba. So I am asking you to withdraw your socialist agents or something bad will happen. Respectfully, thank you.

I realize you wrote this tongue-in-cheek, but I have to point out something here.

I hate to break it to you, but you don't reject socialism. Social security, your education system, fire department, police services, and military are all major examples of "socialist" services.

I assume you have no problem with paying taxes for schools, fire departments, police services, or the military? Why? Well, presumably because they are all necessary. Your country needs defence, so all taxpayers chip in to fund a military. You need schools so your kids can get educated, so all taxpayers chip in to fund schools. You need someone to put out fires in your home and neighbourhood, so all taxpayers chip in to prevent your house from getting burned down - a fire department. You need protection from criminals, so all taxpayers chip in to fund a police service.

So how is it any different if all taxpayers chip in to give all Americans necessary medical treatment? Do you know what country spends the most on healthcare? The United States. Do you know what the administrative costs are in the United States for healthcare services? 20 cents per dollar. Do you know what that figure is in Canada? 6 cents on the dollar. In Taiwan? Less than 2 cents on the dollar.

Private insurance companies rip off the average Joe through practices like recision. I have absolutely no qualms with capitalism, but not when it comes to the health of my countrymen (and women). When you have a for-profit system dealing with the health and lives of people, cost-cutting measures DO affect people adversely. As a result, you have massive numbers of people who are uninsured or have insufficient coverage or even die every year because of it. You have a ton of bankruptcies each year due to medical costs.

In countries with "socialized medicine" these problems don't exist or if they do, to a far lesser degree. I'm not going to tell you the Canadian system - or other systems like in Europe or Japan or Taiwan - are perfect. They have flaws. But the number of flaws in our system and the reduced severity of those flaws is a far, far better alternative than what currently exists in the United States.

There is a reason why the World Health Organization rates the US healthcare system so low compared to countries with "socialized medicine". The above reasons are precisely why.
