So many people in a rush to start a family and then end up being

...

Yup not a big deal in fact ANYONE can do it......

Have you?

BILLIONS of other people have so like I said no big deal. You're not special because you have a kid even if you like to think you are.

Reproduction is easy. Raising a decent human being in todays world, not so much.

In today's world, as opposed to...?

Times past when raising children was somewhat easier.

When?

why is it harder now?

Did your parents have to worry about you seeing porno on TV? Did they have to guard against pedophiles online? Did your elementary school have metal detectors? Did both of your parents work? There are a myriad of ways it is harder now.

When?

I was a child in the 1960s. My children were born in the 80s.

Did your parents have to worry about you seeing porno on TV?

Every neighborhood had that one kid with Hustler Magazines he stole from his father.

...Did they have to guard against pedophiles online?

There have always been perverts.

...Did your elementary school have metal detectors?

No, and my son's elementary school doesn't have them now.

...Did both of your parents work?

Yes

...There are a myriad of ways it is harder now.

Same basic (and essential) job.

Families raised their children in the 60s and the 80s just as families do now.

Yeah, there was a kid with Penthouse magazine in my neighborhood. You think that is the same as the "2 Girls/1cup", orgies, squirting, ect ect free porn that is out there?

Yes, there have always been perverts. And parents have always had to watch out when they were in public. But, for the most part, once the kid was home they were not being pursued by strangers via exchanges that parents can't see.

Ok, not all elementary schools, but more and more high schools.

The world is more complex than it was. It has been getting that way for generations. That effects how difficult it is to raise children.

Yes they do. And there is much more outside influence now than there was.

It was for those kids.

The world is more complex than it was. .....

Every generation has said this. It's "back in my day" syndrome, used to promote the fantasy of an idyllic past or to show how 'tough' we used to have it. It's all impressions, modified memories, or outright lies. The basics are what they are. It's never been easy (and never will be) and it's always vital for society (and it always will be).

And many more educational tools and opportunities, better medicine, more understanding of these influences and means of managing them, etc. Different times are different, not better or worse in the big scheme of things.

I am not saying anything of the sort. I am pointing out the fact that there is much, much more influence on children from outside the family. There are dangers to the kids that my parents would have been unable to fathom.

Yes, there are many great things today. But when you look at managing them, that is another task put to parents. Hence my statement that it is more difficult. Not to mention the fact that in the 60s and before, it was unusual for both parents to work. Especially any farther back than that. So kids are being partly raised by people making minimum wage (or very close). My father worked his way through college with 2 part-time jobs. I went to college and worked full time, and still graduated with almost $16k in debt. My kids had scholarships and still graduated with more debt.

They would have fathomed them and dealt with them accordingly had they existed then.

"Back in my day" is a specious argument, and always has been. I'll bet you can't "fathom" raising kids during a polio epidemic, but your grandparents did. So much easier for them, eh?

I can't fathom that. But then, my father was home working on the farm when he wasn't in school. My grandparents knew everyone he knew. They were able to raise him with minimal outside influence.

You will notice I did not say "better". There were far fewer choices for parents. But that does make it easier for them.

Yes, they would have. But they did not have to deal with them. Which goes towards the accuracy of what I said.

They had to deal with other things, other challenges. Not "easier."
