Dear rdean
Separation of "church and state" or social programming from govt solves both problems:
1. never mind what people think in their own religious terms, of this couple or that one,
but keep it out of govt unless everyone agrees it reflects public policy
2. respect and support the equal freedom of religious, nonprofit, business groups and schools to help provide longterm programs for feeding, housing and helping the needy.
Then the portion that only the govt can take care would be on govt, and the rest can be delegated out instead of backlogging the whole system where nothing works right.
If we maximize the services and resources managed by local communities per district and state, then we can reduce the burden and bureaucracy on central govt that otherwise prevents it from operating efficiently.
Why not focus on shifting the programs and resources to local management,
and setting up sustainable systems of training leaders and communities to operate
independently, to be self-governing and financially/socially responsible?
Can't we serve more people that way, equalize the access, and have greater direct accountability to prevent waste and abuse from mucking up the system?
Republicans call two responsible adults who are in love a terrible perversion.
At the same time, they call cutting food stamps for disabled veterans being "thrifty".
And they say they represent Jesus.
Go figure.
