Shohei leads off with a home run and pitches 5 shutout innings. Ruth never did that.

you have a team stat book from 100 years ago?
where do you get your information, scan of his baseball card?

they did not really keep stats like they do today back then, basic stats
Stop and think.

If those great players from yesteryear had all the advantages our players have today, they would be even greater.

Yes. Yes we do. Did you not know this?

Pitch types were not tracked statistically, but we actually did know how to write and read, 100 years ago. Sportwriters covered his pitch types. His fastball is estimated at about 90 mph.

It is common knowledge that athletes get bigger, faster and stronger with each generation. There was maybe one or two throwing a baseball over 90 mph from yesteryear. Nowadays any legit 5A high school team has a kid throwing 90 mph. If you are a pitcher and don't throw over 90 you have ZERO CHANCE of making the big leagues. None.

no stat cast so they just assumed before radar guns

You clearly do not understand major league dynamics or player physiology.

They knew what fastballs and curveballs were, though. And it's an educated guess at the velocity, they aren't just throwing darts. And saying he threw high 80s/90 mph isn't much of a stretch. And I guess he had a crazy curveball.

I was not there and nobody alive was so it's now just somebody's observation
Maybe they were right, likely more wrong but that was the time

Our opinions disagree. Cy Young and Walter Johnson would have done as well as Greg Maddux and Warren Spahn.

Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb would have, too.
