I have no idea why you think "these guys KICK ASS to those old-timers"Of course.
As too the guy posting below.
My thoughts are this.
You cannot compare stats and athletes to todays STUDS.
For SURE, the Pitchers TODAY are far more advanced than any other time in MLB History.
Guys like Nolan Ryan stood out, but today, there are many who achieve his excellence.
protectionist should be able to NAME the current MLB pitcher(s) that would surpass Ryan, and I lOVE Ryan. Ask Robin Ventura.
I get it missy, the players in the 30's-50's dominated because they were actually dominate, but the competition was less.
Today, these guys KICK ASS to those old-timers, who I LOVE, and actually have their BB Cards.
Let's discuss the All-Time Greatest Baseball Players.
Show me one player in 2026 that has to hit home runs in a ballpark that is 490 feet (dead center) and 429 feet to right center (where 905 of Ruth's home runs went)You can argue the top 10 players of all time are playing right now. They are bigger, faster, stronger, and more talented now than ever.
Babe Ruth was the greatest player of his era.
But if you teleported 1927 Babe Ruth into 2026 MLB, he would be facing velocity, movement, scouting, defensive positioning, nutrition, bullpen depth, and athletic competition that simply did not exist in his time.
Modern MLB players are facing a sport that is dramatically harder than the one Ruth played. Pitchers now throw harder, train year-round, have specialized bullpens, use high-speed video, biomechanics, tunneling, spin-rate optimization, sweepers, splitters, cutters, and 100 mph relievers. Statcast now tracks pitch movement, exit velocity, bat speed, swing path, arm strength, sprint speed, and more — the modern game is built around measurable athletic optimization.
Babe Ruth might not even start on the field. He'd be a DH and come in and pitch in a 20 inning game when they were out of pitchers.
Correction: (where 90% of Ruth's home runs went) - didn't get the shift button pressed & it came out as a 5.Show me one player in 2026 that has to hit home runs in a ballpark that is 490 feet (dead center) and 429 feet to right center (where 905 of Ruth's home runs went)
Show me one player in 2026 who has to hit where the pitching mound is 15 inches high (favoring the pitcher) as hitters before the 1960s had to do. (mounds were lowered to 10 inches in the 1960s).
Show me one player in 2026 who can run from home plate to first base in 3.1 seconds (the time Mickey Mantle was clocked at) For that matter, show one one player in 2026 who was as strong as Mantle (or Ruth or Gehrig) and hit home runs as far as they did.
Show one right handed player who had to hit in a ballpark 461 feet to dead center and 457 feet to left center as Joe DiMaggio had to do.
All these modern gimmicks you mention are nothing much more than that, and the "defensive positioning & nutrition (not to mention steroids) all give advantages to the current players.
