Schumer Shutdown Question

The government shutdown remains at a standstill, with the issue at the center being that Democrats demand that Republicans pass extensions for subsidies of the Affordable Care Act.

It makes no sense, I thought it was called the AFFORDABLE Care Act. If it is so affordable, why are subsidies needed? :dunno:

The dems have some explainin' to do.
I say Democrats need to go along and re open the government after seeing this

The largest union for federal workers urged Congress on Monday to pass a “clean” funding bill to end the government shutdown, undercutting Democrats who are demanding that any deal include subsidies for people who get their insurance through the Affordable Care Act.

**** it. I hope Trump goes after government unions next. No one will stand up for them. Not me or Chuck Schumer.

Hey, if the cowardly federal government workers won't stand up to Trump, I hope he ***** them good. Take away their unions and whatever protections and benefits come with them. You guys hate public unions right? Get rid of them. You have till the midterms next year. Do it!

If I were Chuck though, I wouldn't cave for them. I'd tell them "your jobs next if you let Trump get away with this".

This is the only leverage the Democrats have.

If Federal Government workers want to punish Democrats and vote GOP next year in the midterms, go for it.

LOL.....I suspect they would be singing a different tune if the ones sitting at home would not get back pay.....Which they shouldn't.

It all just a nice vacation for them....Every shutdown is.

These losers can't go a month without a paycheck. We saw during the pandemic not too many Americans can.

Shit I could go 2 years. Maybe 3 without having to touch any of my retirement money. But it would suck eating up that money which is also supposed to be there for me when I retire. I don't want to have to spend it now.

They've had 15 years since Affordable Care Act came along and they've yet to figure that out. The headlines about Congressional hearings that amount to nothing but an opportunity for one party to harass the other burns my hide over our lazy do-nothing Congress.

it was all in the negotiations to get them on board with the ACA. they were also promised subsidies from the gov'ment to take on the sickest of the sick called 'high risk' corridors but marco rubio put a poison pill into the omnibus in 2015 to slowly erode that. the insurance companies spent millions lobbying against a 'public option' too because they knew it would be popular & they didn't want the competition. so much for that free market capitalism (R)s brag about.

Dude, they are your base. **** 'em? Wow Talk about biting off your nose to spite your face.

Proof Schumer is holding America hostage on a political stunt. CRs are for funding already negotiated and voted on programs, not new programs.

Since board Dimtards are avoiding my education thread like it's a job.............

Summary

The program activities of most federal agencies are generally funded on an annual basis through the enactment of regular appropriations acts. When those annual appropriations acts are not enacted by the beginning of the fiscal year (October 1), one or more continuing appropriations acts (commonly known as continuing resolutions or CRs) may be enacted to provide temporary funding to continue certain programs and activities until action on the regular appropriations acts is completed.

There are six main features of CRs.

First, CRs have provided funding for certain activities (coverage), which are typically specified with reference to the prior fiscal year's appropriations acts.

Second, CRs provide budget authority for a specified duration of time. This duration may be as short as a single day or as long as the remainder of the fiscal year.

Third, in recent practice, CRs have typically provided funds based on an overall funding rate rather than in specified amounts.

Fourth, the use of budget authority provided in the CR has been prohibited for new activities not funded in the previous fiscal year.

Fifth, the duration and amount of funds in the CR, and purposes for which they may be used for specified activities, may be adjusted through anomalies.

Sixth, legislative provisions—which create, amend, or extend other laws—have been included in some instances.

I would bet if Chuck U would propose only the extensions instead of demanding the whole enchilada or nothing, he would get somewhere with it. I think he's incapable of true negotiation, however.
He's probably confident of growing pressure from their constituents on Republicans trying to deprive them of their healthcare coverage.

Trump performs better overseas

Trump — And House Republicans — Are Largely Absent As Shutdown Fallout Grows

The House is still out of session, while the president is working on trade agreements abroad

Johnson has long stressed that Republicans have fulfilled their role by passing spending legislation. But the measure stalled in the Senate as Democrats have refused to support it because it doesn’t include an extension of health care subsidies that are set to expire.

You know, like the Trump tax cuts are set to expire. Let those expire too.

And the White House has maintained that it will only hold talks with Democrats after they support legislation to reopen the government.

LOL. **** that. When we have no leverage?

Told you guys not to vote for Trump. He would destroy the country. He's doing it. 30 days no government. The Trump Shutdown. In 30 years no one will remember who the speaker was. Oh yea, it's a Republican. No one will remember who the Senate Majority leader was either. Oh yea, a Republican too.

Republican Government Shutdown. What Democratic programs is Trump doing away with to get us back for this?

So what would you say if Thune and the Republicans went nuclear for CRs, Appropriations, and Rescissions?

I'd say we will one day have this power and you might want to ask yourself the same question.

One Republican yesterday admitted he would not like it if Kamala were blowing up boats off the coast of Venezuela. So you may want to see Republicans go nuclear but just remember this when it's our turn. I know you're the type to not worry about that now. Who says we will ever win power back again? Republicans are rigging the midterms. So I'd say go for it. Do your worst. You're already destroying America. Or destroying what makes it great.

If Democrats were in charge, we'd end up giving in to some of the Republicans demands. Trump doesn't seem to feel like he has to. He's King remember?

Donald Trump’s Support Among Middle Class Crumbling: Poll

Self-proclaimed 'Dealmaker' Trump's cult doesn't ask why their lardass messiah is dazzling with his display of consummate impotence (in convenient absentia, strutting abroad) regarding the government shutdown.

Obviously, the blowhard's promoting the cancellation of the healthcare coverage of millions of Americans in poorly-educated red states is not something he wants to own up to.

He hung out his Congressional lickspittles on this one.

There are growing calls among congressional Republicans for their party to address expiring Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits before a critical deadline if they hope to avoid a major hike in health insurance rates, as the issue remains at the center of the ongoing government shutdown. Some GOP lawmakers warn that failing to act may mean Republicans lose complete control of Congress in next year's midterms.

After their blatant lie that Democrats were demanding healthcare coverage for illegals was exposed and debunked, they have not concocted a 'Plan B' lie.
