I'm not suggesting that I have an answer to this problem with NK.

But I AM suggesting that we deal with it - right now - rather than continuing to sit on our thumbs, as we have been for all these years. Waiting, has only made this problem much worse. So, "biding our time" is no answer at all. It's just more of the same. (Allowing the problem, and it's possible consequences, to grow).

War with North Korea is a horrible thought, but waiting until they have even greater nuclear capabilities will make the problem much worse, and will increase any potential loss of life exponentially. Their nuclear capabiities are expanding much more rapidly than anyone expected. I would rather we confront them today, and get the problem settled, one way or another. We cannot allow ourselves to live in a future filled with fear because of our cowardice and lack of resolve. The N Koreans proved in our last war with them, that they are willing to suffer any loss of life when they are at war. And, to their way of thinking, we are still at war. Nothing seems to have changed, in that regard. If we are weak, they will continue to be aggressive and they will win in every disagreement.

Here's a question for you. If you were on an airliner and a terrorist moved to take over the plane, threatening to set off a bomb or in some other way to make the plane crash. How long would you wait? Would you 'try' to get to the terrorist and disarm or disable him as quickly as possible? Or would you "bide your time" and hope he will have mercy on you and your family.

In real life, I have been in two separate situations in which I could have been killed. I know how I react. I do not freeze.

We are capable of wiping North Korea off the map. That would kill 25 million innocent people. It would also kill a million South Koreans and tens of thousands of our own soldiers

Every President in the last 65 years has had that same option. None thought it was worth it

We have listened to bluster and threats from North Korea for decades. Mostly, we just ignore it. We have relied on diplomatic means to enforce strict sanctions and limit their economy

I was pondering how to best deal with Kimmy and I think S. Korea should off him (I'd previously suggested Russia for global "optics" but S. Korea is way better for the transition.)

It'd be "more" legit in N. Korean eyes I think. They've been living under the idea of "reunification" of N and S Korea so if S Korea kicks Kimmy's ass then I'd guess that they'd be more keen on the conversion (rather than if some "foreign" nation did it.) I kind of get the impression that they believe the US is oppressing S. Korea; the N. Korean press lies about the US being tyrants and evil dictators all the time and such. If S. Korea "wins" the battle to reunify, I think that'd 'deflate' the lies about the US and shit. Plus you know it wouldn't take long for the N. Korean peasants to appreciate modern life; and as I understand it, they'd quickly realize that the US has been feeding them for years (as they realize that symbol on their aid packages is the American flag.)

Not my field of course, but I'm sure our experts have drafted a series of ideas and plans to deal with this situation. ~shrug~

It's true that we have done nothing about the threats from NK for decades. But they never before had nuclear weapons. Having nuclear armed ICBMs levels the playing field - for them. At the rate they're going, they'll soon have enough nukes to cause massive damage to the U.S., obliterating many of our large cities and much of our population.

Doing nothing, up to now, exposed us to no real danger. That is no longer true. If we continue to do nothing, we are putting our nation's future in the hands of the North Korean crackpots. Soon they'll have so many nukes that we will have no choice but to avoid war with them. Then our only option will be appeasement. If we are that afraid of them, we are only a step away from allowing them to push us around as they please. America has never lived on its knees, but the do-nothing / appeasement crowd may be willing to change that.

There are estimates of up to 3,000,000 NK lives lost in the Korean war. The NKs know how devastating war can be. Maybe they've worked so hard at building their military so they can even the score. In any case, they seem far less afraid of war than many Americans seem to be. Perhaps because they understand that death is not the worst thing that can happen to a person.
