Robert Reich: 14 Week "Wealth and Poverty" Class

Mr. Reich is exceedingly wealthy himself, and is a millionaire several times over.

Not only that he is exceedingly well connected to some of the highest ranking members of America's ruling Liberal Elite.

Its the height of hypocrisy for him to whine so much about affluence- particularly when most of the affluent worked their asses off for it, compared to him who is just a recipient of choice political and academic plums.
He also is a big cheapskate when it comes to donating to charity.

Reich was born to a family that owned a woman's clothing store unlike many US oligarchs who won a birth lottery. He graduated summa cum laude in 1968 from Dartmouth College after winning a Rhodes Scholarship to study Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at Oxford.

"He's earned his reported net worth of $4 million as opposed to greedy parasites who bribe government for tax and trade policies that transfer wealth from the 90% to the one percent.

Robert Reich - Wikipedia

"Reich is a political commentator on programs including Erin Burnett OutFront, CNN Tonight, Anderson Cooper's AC360, Hardball with Chris Matthews, This Week with George Stephanopoulos, CNBC's Kudlow & Company, and APM's Marketplace.

"In 2008, Time magazine named him one of the Ten Best Cabinet Members of the century,[9] and in the same year The Wall Street Journal placed him sixth on its list of Most Influential Business Thinkers.[10]"

And yet he is unable to articulate economic theory in a meaningful way to those seeking a better life. His lectures do nothing but impart a sense of entitlement to the listener/student/disciple.

I'm unsure if a 14 week class each with a 120 minute You-Tube video lecture along with recommended readings is anything this board would be interested in or even if such a thread is "legal", but it could be useful to some posters:

My course "Wealth and Poverty" starts right here next Friday

"I’m so pleased to be able to bring you the big 700-undergraduate course I teach on Wealth and Poverty — starting here next Friday and continuing every Friday for 14 weeks. I’ll also post an abbreviated syllabus so you can do the key readings, should you wish..."

"I designed the course to give students — and now, you — a deeper understanding of why inequalities of income and wealth have widened significantly over the last 40 years in the United States."

Reich's class began last week (2/7-2/14).
One of his core beliefs, acquired over half-a-century in academia and government, is that politics and economics are inextricable.
The following is from Week One's readings:

The 9.9 Percent Is the New American Aristocracy

"It is in fact the top 0.1 percent who have been the big winners in the growing concentration of wealth over the past half century.

"According to the UC Berkeley economists Emmanuel Saez and Gabriel Zucman, the 160,000 or so households in that group held 22 percent of America’s wealth in 2012, up from 10 percent in 1963.

"If you’re looking for the kind of money that can buy elections, you’ll find it inside the top 0.1 percent alone."

Robert Reich is a fascist piece of shit.

America is far better off with a filthy rich minority than without one. Big money does big things.

Does it matter how the "filthy rich minority" earns its fortunes?
For example; does the wealth of industrial capitalists like Andrew Carnegie benefit America more than the greed of finance capitalists like Ray Dalio?

That’s absurd and shows a total lack of understanding.

The billionaires and their big corporations have bought both political parties and as such, control our government. This is why our nation is dysfunctional and failing. When government is for sale, the rich buy it.

Our crony capitalist quasi Fascist state needs fixing before it’s too late and the masses rise up.

Wealth inequality is a GOOD thing.

You discourage work and effort when you attempt to “equalize” everyone, regardless of the amount of effort to put forth toward bettering themselves.

In our country, a poor boy or girl raised by uneducated parents can - by virtue of their motivation, effort, good values, and ability - rise to become affluent, or certainly middle class. Why is that not a GOOD thing?

Why the “funny”? You think it’s funny that there is an incentive to work and apply oneself in order to move out of poverty as opposed to just being given food stamps, rent subsidies, free health insurance, big wads of cash (an adult I know who has never had a job just got a $14,000 cash payment) so they can stay dependent forever?

Your thinking on this is funny. Sounds a lot like this criminal in film. You need to think a bit more on this issue.

You are going right to the extremes, as is usual for libtards.

I am talking about the left’s goal to “equalize” everyone so that the office support staff or garage mechanic earning $50,000 a year lives no better than the person who refuses to work and instead gets a ton of welfare benefits and cash money. In some cases, the handouts to the lazy person who won’t work are so much that she lives BETTER than the lower-middle class.

Why would anyone want to work? The only people better off than the welfare class are those with graduate degrees earning around $100,000 or more.

P.S. When someone on welfare goes to the theatre, out to nice restaurants, and takes trips to Atlantic City….you know there’s a problem.

Lol. I’m not a libtard but labeling me one, may fit your little world view.

If you don’t know the harm caused by the extreme wealthy, I can’t help you. Do the research please.

Do you believe all Americans have an equal shot at success? Do you think no one receives preferential treatment?

Money is the creation of the rich and powerful minority. They let us play with it as long as they get their cut.

I have already 'risen up', by being a small-time capitalist myself. :)

Okay me too, but this has nothing to do with the point we were discussing.

The extreme wealthy aren’t elected by the people, but they run the country. If you think this is okay, we greatly disagree.
