RFK Jr's vow to ban syrup sows concern among corn farmers in Trump heartland

Funny, nobody seemed concerned when Dr. Fauci banned education and Church congregations and bankrupted business but Yahoo wants us to believe that Ohio farmers are in a panic over syrup.

Many were concerned. Where did you get the idea they weren't. The idea came from how you are unable to condemn what you know you should be condemning because of your politics.

I'm amazed that any Democrats would fold their arms over in self-righteousness after the way they tried to force the vaccine on everybody by law. I guess it's only good when they do it.
It's the refrain of the two parties: It's different when we do it!

Nanny state. If there are no supporters then they would naturally have to. There are hundreds of things that are not the best for us. You want the government banning all of it?

Nanny state MAGA. Who would have thought.
Me.

Vaccine much?

“In the farms and fields of Darke and Shelby counties in western Ohio, Donald Trump enjoys near-unfettered support. In the 5 November election, more than 80% of voters here backed the president-elect – the highest rates of any counties in Ohio.

But western Ohio is also prime corn growing ground, and with Robert F Kennedy Jr Trump’s pick to head the Department of Health and Human Services, many here may find themselves struggling if Kennedy is allowed to reshape America’s food industry to his liking.

In sharp contrast to Trump’s first administration, when Department of Agriculture officials and appointees worked closely with agriculture interests, Kennedy has vowed to ban high fructose corn syrup and seed oils, a move that would significantly reduce demand for a host of crops.”

Yet another example of the stupidity of Trump voters.
Why high fructose corn syrup should be banned and/or strongly regulated as it is in almost all European countries:

1. Adds a lot of unnatural fructose to our diet
2. Increases fatty liver disease
3. Contributes to obesity
4. Excessive intake linked to diabetes
5. Contributes to numerous other diseases
6. Provides no essential nutrients

I already avoid the stuff in products as much as is reasonable but you find it everywhere from salad dressings to barbeque sauce to ice cream to breakfast cereals to soft drinks, etc. etc. etc.

There is no controversy re getting most of the stuff out of our food.

Seed oils are condemned by some but not all. We might have a reasoned debate on whether a ban on those is justified.

There's nothing stupid about it. Corn syrup has been identified as the number one cause of obesity across the board in North America.
It is highly destructive to the metabolism and to the pancreatic complex. Responsible for a host of diseases including hypoglycemia, diabetes,
High blood pressure and numerous related circulatory issues.
So what do you replace it with?

Believe it or not I'm conflicted on this....
I think a lot of people realize That corn syrup is not good for them. A lot of people realize that smoking is terrible for them but they choose to do it anyway because.... Freedom of choice.

Maybe the best we can hope for Is the education of the public to the dangers of the choice that they make. I don't think people will be drinking corn syrup straight from the bottle but they may not realize how much of it they're getting in their diet.

Having said that I do not want a nanny state.
If that means that corn syrup stays then that's what it means.

Informing people about products is not a nanny state. I have no problem with that. It's where the banning comes into play where I have a problem.

Yeah exactly... Oh I'm sure there are a few farmers or maybe even dozens who are concerned because it will directly affect them.
Corn is a very versatile product. If they can't be a source of syrup they can certainly provide products for other industries. Corn oil is also in major retail product.
“a few farmers”?

How about the whole states of Iowa, Nebraska, and just about everywhere else.

RFK Jr, like Trump, isn’t really trying to make anything healthier. They’re peddling easy answers to low information people in order to gain attention and money.

Banning HFCS is pointless. The problem isn’t the ingredient, it’s the consumption.

But people don’t want to hear that. They want a scapegoat, something to blame that isn’t themselves.

You’re not fat because you pound 2 L of Mt Dew a day, it’s because there’s HFCS. That’s what they hear. It’s totally wrong.
