RFK Jr's vow to ban syrup sows concern among corn farmers in Trump heartland

This is the scapegoating.

Sugar is sugar. Replace HFCS with cane sugar and you equal amount of disease.

The problem is entirely in the choices made by consumers.

It's the same issue with a pack of cigarettes.
The world would be infinitely better off without them but enough people still want them so that there's plenty of money to be made. The compromise? A warning printed on the side of the pack and an age limit for the purchase.

You’re avoiding my points.

You’re saying it’s an unhealthy amount of unnatural fructose.

There’s nothing unnatural about fructose, it’s already 50% of cane sugar, which is not significantly different than HFCS.

Cane sugar and HFCS are basically the same.
You don't seem to understand the difference between natural fructose and unnatural fructose. And I suspect that is deliberate. So I'll wish you a pleasant afternoon and move on.

It’s really not the same. People need calories to survive. No one needs smoking to survive.

Your posts are pseudoscience gibberish.

Your exit from the discussion is deliberate because you know you have no idea what you’re talking about and you can’t admit it.

That’s the MAGA way. Never admit anything.

Better a nanny that gives a shit about you, rather than one that steals from you and then sets you on fire!!!!
C. S. Lewis said:

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. They may be more likely to go to Heaven yet at the same time likelier to make a Hell of earth. This very kindness stings with intolerable insult. To be "cured" against one's will and cured of states which we may not regard as disease is to be put on a level of those who have not yet reached the age of reason or those who never will; to be classed with infants, imbeciles, and domestic animals.”

It’s really not the same. People need calories to survive. No one needs smoking to survive.

No one needs corn syrup to survive either.
However it would appear that we do need freedom of choice even if we don't make the best choices.

We have PLENTY of choices............we just don't need the toxic ones on the list.

It's better to have 3 good, safe choices than to have 100 potentially deadly ones.

So, the corn syrup nonsense was prompted largely by ill-conceived government subsidies. Isn't the obvious answer to just remove the subsidies, then let society sort this out voluntarily - without government mandates and "incentives"?

“In the farms and fields of Darke and Shelby counties in western Ohio, Donald Trump enjoys near-unfettered support. In the 5 November election, more than 80% of voters here backed the president-elect – the highest rates of any counties in Ohio.

But western Ohio is also prime corn growing ground, and with Robert F Kennedy Jr Trump’s pick to head the Department of Health and Human Services, many here may find themselves struggling if Kennedy is allowed to reshape America’s food industry to his liking.

In sharp contrast to Trump’s first administration, when Department of Agriculture officials and appointees worked closely with agriculture interests, Kennedy has vowed to ban high fructose corn syrup and seed oils, a move that would significantly reduce demand for a host of crops.”

Yet another example of the stupidity of Trump voters.
Pancake lovers unite!!!

People need carbohydrates. That’s all corn syrup is.

Why single out corn syrup?

Very good Yes..... That way you preserve both freedom of choice and free trade. I like it.

This is just virtue signaling. Removing subsidies doesn’t change anything.

How is this virtue signaling???

Are you saying the subsidies have no effect on the problem? It's pretty well documented.
You’re virtue is being against government subsidies.

I’ve been saying repeatedly. Corn syrup is not the problem. It doesn’t matter if it’s corn syrup or any other sugar. It’s all the same.

??? --- I'm not sure you really get the concept of "virtue signaling". But whatever.

Sure. To be clear, I'm opposed to the proposed ban. But I also don't think government should be subsidizing it. Just let people decide for themselves.
