These companies will just have to go back to the old ways of making syrups, jams, jellies, and such.

First of all, I don't think the government should be about the business of banning foods that fall out of favor with the government. If the government DOES ban a food type, it should be through the legislative process, not by administrative quasi-law.

That said, the reasoning in the OP is a little off. Given that HFCS is much worse for humans than sugar, we should not avoid banning them so that farmers can continue to profit by harming us. How many people should develop obesity, diabetes, heart disease and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease so that Farmer Jones can keep selling corn?

In the unlikely event that HFCS is banned, farmer Jones can switch to growing sugar cane and sugar beets.

But, I get it. The idea is to level any criticism imaginable at anyone associated with Donald Trump. If the Biden administration banned HFCS as one of its last acts, and Trump lifted the ban, the media would accuse Trump of wanting to KILL US ALL!

There are hundreds.... Unfortunately the corn syrup is cheaper to use as an ingredient than almost anything else for sweetener. This is why most corporations choose it over the alternatives. It is true that a large segment of agriculture is based on the consumption of high fructose corn syrup. It will no doubt mean that some farmers will need to find a more diverse market for their product. And yes some of them will be pissed.
