A pilot more senior bumped him at the last minute on September 10, 2001.

Is it just me or does that image of the person walking onto the runway look strange to anyone else? To me it looks as if they're hobbled.

I also find it completely baffling that this person never looks towards the plane that is barreling its way into him. That doesn't seem like normal human behavior. What am I missing?!?

When a person walks into the engine of an airliner as this man did, he becomes juices and bits of meat. I believe he committed suicide.
