I don't believe the fed-gov has the constitutional authority to mandate free people save for retirement. A free person should make those decisions for themselves and bear the consequences of them. SS could be legal at the state level, per the 10th Amendment. Those are my views.

What about the insurance component of Social Security? You choose the IRA option and then become disabled at 50, what then? And forget about disability insurance, Social Security payments are factored in premium calculations. Remove that component and no regular person could ever afford the premiums.It should be voluntary on where your money goes, not if you have to make a contribution or not. Too many irresponsible people in this country to make decisions for their future. Then we'd all end up supporting them after they paid nothing into the system.
